Due to two failed drug tests, the WBC has suspended heavyweight Alexander Povetkin from participating in any WBC-sanctioned bouts indefinitely and fined him $250,000. On April 27, 2016, Povetkin tested positive for Meldonium and on December 6, 2016, he tested positive for Ostarine. VADA, pursuant to the WBC Clean Boxing Program, will design a specific testing protocol for Povetkin at Povetkin’s own cost and expense, which will commence as soon as feasible after this ruling and will continue for one year. Povetkin will be able to apply for reinstatement into the WBC after the one-year anniversary of this ruling as long as he tests clean. The WBC will also consider any additional evidence it receives and it might issue a supplemental ruling based on information and materials Povetkin submits.

It sucks because heavyweight needs all the good fighters it can get but if he's cheating then he deserves at least this.

Can he not pay the 260k, and just compete for the other sanctioning bodies in the future?

No title holder should give this guy another shot until he works his way back up the ladder clean. He is aging and obviously looking for any advantage in training and competition...who knows what he has gotten away with in his career?

Maybe he can fight Lucas Browne that would be even.

Fckin joke punishment. Sends out a terrible message; get caught cheating, may miss a couple of pay days. The benefits outweigh the risk! He should be getting 4 years minimum

They should just make the cheaters fight each other first. You shoukd have to emerge from the "DOPER'S Bracket" before you can hop back into title contention.
Since Povetkin killed his career how about Ortiz vs Stiverne. Wilder is right in a way. Both those guys are crying for a fight. How about they fight each other first and pass some strict testing.

Thanks Deontay.
