I'd go to local shows and there would be emo, punk, screamo, & metal-core bands all playing on the same show. I saw Alexisonfire probably 7 times and I never went just to see them, I did really like them though, and they were super nice guys. They would always play with Jude The Obscure

I'll always have a soft spot for Alexisonfire. Their self titled was a great album. Even their latest stuff was really good.

Not sure if you've heard George's band, Dead Tired.

It's true, It was a special time. All the bands were feeding off each others energy and creativity. The movement seemed pretty big at the time. I have an old flyer from 1998 and it lists all the punk, garage, ska, hc, scremo etc. shows in the Toronto area over the next two weeks, and there were literally 30-40 shows a week in the summer. Often I'd go to shows 4-5 times a week in the late 90's

At the drive-in really opened my mind to different styles of punk.

At The Drive-In might just be my favorite band of all time. Their Vaya EP is one of my favorite pieces of music, ever.

Hey, a screamo fan... I thought I was the last one. Cool.

Love Neil Perry. They rose from the ashes of Joshua Fit For Battle & Get Fucked

Then when they broke up Josh met up with the guys from Saetia and formed Hot Cross... all great bands.

Loma Prieta are pretty awesome too. Never heard of "Lord Snow" before but I liked it a lot. I'll definitely pick that album up, and check out their other stuff, thanks for sharing.

Some UK bits;

Don't know any of these bands either, liked 'em all. Especially Kadish, the scene is pretty much dead over here, it's nice to hear some new bands keeping the style alive. Gonna download that one too. Keep them coming.

Vi Som Älskade Varandra Så Mycket are the best new screamo band I've heard in a while, featuring ex-members of Khayembii Communique and Song of Zarathustra.

Femme Fatale (one of my favourite local bands) featuring both members of Death From Above 1979.

Some more Screamo :p

HC Screamo-Punk

This was the first At the Drive-In song I heard, but It was before the ep came out so I bought In/Casino/Out first. El Gran Oro is my favourite release of theirs though, and I prefer De-loused in the Comatorium to anything At the Drive-In did... Omar is releasing 12 solo albums this year btw. The first one's out already, it's pretty good.

No, thanks for sharing. Didn't know he had another band. Sounds good, will have to check out more from them.

George was always the nicest one. He would always get up and dance for the other bands, even if he was the only one. He used to take polaroids of people in the crowd and then give them to them, so lots of of their early fans have pictures of themselves at Alexisonfire shows, that were taken by the singer while he sang... pretty cool. They asked all their friends to e-mail bomb much music (Canadian MTV, that still played videos at the time) and we did, that's how they got their break. Much music put their video in regular rotation then they started doing radio/TV performances. If not for that, Dallas Green would still be playing local bars in Niagara Falls and Toronto.

There's no other bands like At the Drive-In, they were a real game-changer. Here's a couple similar bands y'all might like

The Vidablue, who later changed their name to Ten Grand. The singer died of a brain aneurysm... he went pretty crazy when he sang

The VSS, this song was labelled as a Mars Volta demo track when the demo came out, had me fooled, lol.

Edit: Have you guys heard Antemasque? Omar and Cedric from At the Drive-In with Flea on bass, and Travis Barker on drums. crazy line-up

They have a new album coming out pretty soon also.

Ha yeah, we're a dying breed.

Do love that so many Screamo bands share/shared members. Makes it much easier to find good stuff. Hot Cross are awesome. Do you know For Want Of? Seen a few comparisons bandied about before.

Have you heard the Sailboats demo? Loma Prieta members prior project. I think it was confirmed that the last 2 tracks on this upload are actually nothing to do with them but the first track in particular fucking rips.

The scene's mostly dead here too but there's still a core group of bands chugging along. I'll post up some more stuff tomorrow and check out the bits you posted then too, time for bed!

Hadn't heard them before. A lot less melodic and more distorted than Hot Cross but I can hear a resemblance. Good stuff either way

I have the Sailboats demo, very similar to Loma Prieta really, I found it on some screamo blog I think. I like their song from the Emo Apocalypse comp a lot too.
