    Post-exercise Caffeine Helps Muscles Refuel

Athletes who ingested caffeine with carbohydrate had 66% more glycogen in their muscles four hours after finishing intense, glycogen-depleting exercise, compared to when they consumed carbohydrate alone, according to the study.

I'll have to try this on Sundays when I work out during the day. On the weekdays I work out in the evening and more caffeine will just affect my sleep even more than my PreWO drink already does.

That's really interesting, but like Nuge, I think the negative impact of caffinating myself at 8:30 at night would outweigh the benefits.

Yeah, I wouldn't pull this stunt after a PM workout, and the dose they were using was pretty large at 8mg/kg. I've always avoided caffeine PWO, but during my AM workouts I think I'll indulge in a bit more java.

    lol...

I could fall asleep even after drinking a can of rockstar or monster if I feel like it.

It's crazy how some people end up staying up all night after a little bit of caffiene consumption.

So I should be having caffeine pre and post WO? I'm just going to snort anhydrous caffeine throughout the day. Should work well.

    Thanks, Mike.

Two caveats, though...as you build up a tolerance for caffeine, its effects largely diminish at the same doses...I imagine it's the same case with this. Also, caffeine and creatine supposedly don't go well together? Or at least I've heard something to that effect. So PWO creatine could be an issue.

Tolerance may very well inhibit the effects, although I'd hazard a guess the glycogen repletion that the average guy would get from a cup of Joe or two POST workout wouldn't be in the 66% range the test subjects at 8mg/kg.

As far as the caffeine and creatine issue...

    John Berardi - Creatine Combinations

Although the debate seems pretty even at this point, the real clincher for our side is this. In many prior studies showing that creatine does increase performance and muscle mass, creatine was administered with

Wow, thats 684 mg of caffeine for me.

    That is A LOT.

I wonder what would happen if you ingested say 300 ish mg of caffeine prior to work out and say 400mg over the course of the workout with whey and non post.

    Have you tried chocamine.

I'm going to have to start trying that myself I think. Looking for more feed back though. Coca alone doesn't do that much but flavour my coffee

Interested, but I haven't tried it. I believe DevilsSon and Fatty, among others, take chocoamine.

I know dan aka the cap'n takes it (ala a chocamine addict), so thought I would post it here. I've seen dosage recommendations ranging from 100mg up to 500mg.
