Out of 42 top economists, only 1 believes that Trump's tax policy will improve the economy

This isn't a tax plan, it's a republican strike at the heart of Medicare and Medicaid to destroy the programs.

In the demented world of the American republican, the sustainability fallacy coupled with the imbecilic hatred of all things federal makes a potent mixture for programming the weak minded right wing middle and lower classes to believe that spending over half the budget on needless defense yet not a penny for the well being of the vast majority of Americans is a win win...plus federal programs are big government therefore a clusterfuck of inefficiency.

Unenlightened, manipulated self-interest casts a long shadow.

...especially those that deregulate, and put the USA's interests first.
Deregulation and USA first is a recipe for disaster.

Regulations are needed for safety, smooth operation, transparency, etc. USA1 jeopardizes our preexisting arrangements with allies in trading and national security. It is generally incumbent upon American politicians to act on America's behalf...in America's interest (unless you sell out to a foreign power to steal an election). So this entire line of "MAGA USA 1" is nothing more than shortsighted propaganda designed to rope in the suckers so that they FEEL GOOD about themselves.

Looks like you're adding yourself to the klan of Obama cultists. Your leftist "feelings" are hurt and your panties twisted because we have a guy in office that is actually doing something good for the common folk, and not taking any more of your guys' shit. The results speak for themselves. My 401k has exploded, jobs are plentiful, and your empty pro-LGBTQRSPVCTYU rhetoric is being ignored. Hit up Eminen on twitter so you guys can sulk together.

Simple plan for the far right everytime everywhere
Step 1 Defund programs too popular to go after in public
Step 2 Faux outrage at how shoddy the popular services become..talk of needing new ideas to 'fix 'them (but amost never say privatise out loud)
Step 3 allow their donors and buddies ro step in as they privatise and bring 'free market efficency' (no real bidding process either )
Step 4 rake it in...its ok the taxpayer will soak up the usualy higher extra costs of the 'fantasic deal' and will have to take the shoddier service on the nose.....cause fuck em!

Was this a joke or do you have no clue what is in the tax plan?

It will take insurance away from millions of regular folks, will raise taxes on an estimated 25% of regular folks and almost everyone once cuts expire and it will cut Medicare immediately, which helps regular people.

Who wins? Large corporations and large pass through business. Cuts for them are permanent (notice middle class cuts are temporary). Who else wins? Heirs to large fortunes. The thing sounds perfectly tailored for the Trump family...

You have to be extraordinarily partisan or ignorant to call it a tax plan for regular people.

And it would be so fucking easy to help regular people btw.

Out of 42 top economists, only 1 believes the GOP tax bills would help the economy
But all of them think it will increase the debt.

Here is the link to the survey:

Maybe one of the #MAGA brosephs in here can explain how Trump is such a wonderful and caring "man of the people".

Not a MAGA broseph...unless u drop the last A and add er to Great...

Anyhow....I couldn't find the actual data on the 42 respondents. I was looking to see the actual numbers so that I wouldn't have to roll the dice and interpret what "plurality" means.

Something along the lines of 15 said NO, 26 said not sure and 1 said yes.

TBH, the first question anyone should have is "how would this affect me if it passed"

Then the second question... Which more often than not should be the first question and a pretty straight forward one which focuses on "question the source to ensure no bias exists and/or establish that the data is not emotional"....such as

What other polls from this Chicago based school, have these group of top economists which include Nobel price winners and Obama's economist been a part of? Basically, try to establish credence...
Another question would be....Has any recent tax reform bill not increased the debt?

This has been an excellent thread with many intelligent, informed responses but you know what?

The economy is rolling ONLY because Trump is publicly pro-business.

It's ok guys. Eventually reality will set in and you'll understand that economics is greatly influenced by the rhetoric of politicians, especially those that deregulate, and put the USA's interests first.

Sometimes there's just not enough pace-palms in the world.

Your ideas are as impeccable as your grammar and spelling. You can't name any policy of Trump's that "is actually doing something good for the common folk" and then you cry like a puss about "not taking any more of your guys' shit" which makes as much sense as your first point.

The country is still operating under President Obama's budget. So you should thank him for your 401k's performance and plentiful jobs. You won't bc you do not have character.

What the fuck is this? ' your empty pro-LGBTQRSPVCTYU rhetoric is being ignored.' Don't answer that. You are incapable of productive expression let alone constructive thought.

If your theory that Trump is magically improving the economy by saying good stuff (what?), why is it not at all apparent in the data? Wouldn't we expect to see a noticeable uptick in various measures of economic health?

Here's hourly earnings (since Obama took office):

Here's total employment:

Here's per-capita real GDP:

Think of any other metric that makes sense and look it up. What you'll see is long-term improvement that has continued along the same lines since Trump took office. There's simply no way to look at the data honestly and conclude that something significant happened in the past year to change the trajectory of the economy. The only thing that's really changed is that you used to have a large portion of the population trying to promote the idea that the economy was worse than it was, and now that a Republican is in the WH, there are a lot fewer people doing that.

That's not what's happening in the tax plan.

<{cruzshake}>
Did you see that video where a guy interviewed liberals & told them about Bernie Sanders tax plan. They all thought it sounded like a great tax plan. Then the interviewer told them it was actually Trump's tax plan & not Sander's lol
