Oscar Valdez vs Miguel Mirriaga PPV Thread

wtf these cards.. it was way closer then that

I think its a blessing that HBO rejected Oscar Valdez

That will push Arum to work with Showtime, where they have Leo Santa, Mares, and Frampton

Valdez won but i do not think he won that wide that some of the scorecards suggest.
Marriaga made a good impression, would like to see more of him in the future.

Oscar Valdez isnt gonna have a long career if he fights like that

As we say in the UK, two of those were "Matchroom cards".

Marriaga worked the body well & caught Valdez through Oscar's leaky defence.

With Valdez, he's not ever gonna be a "superstar of the future" or whatever the Innernet message-board fanboys proclaimed after that title-winning KO. He isn't offensively sharp enough for his style, & he's not a lights-out puncher or a cutey who's gonna dazzle guys with ringcraft.

He's basically a sub-Cotto type, but much, much less skilled (& FWIW I've never thought as much of Cotto as a lot of others, despite acknowledging that he's a bloody good fighter) compared to the equivalent points in their careers.

I have to admit though, it was a fuckin' excellent fight & well worth catching on the 'tube, disgraceful scoring aside.
