Official Women's Division Discussion #25

At this point I just want Cyborg and that joke of a division to be boycotted by lower weightclass fighters until they either bring in actual 145ers or shut it down
Given that Holly used to box at 154, I would say she's a legitimate FW. Even at 145, she's leaner than most of the other FW's. The only other two fighters I'm in the least bit interested in seeing Cyborg take on are Julia Budd and Morgan Anderson. I would be pleasantly surprised, though, if either made it past the second round. Personally, I think the UFC wants to make the Holm/Cyborg fight as their last chance to have a real money maker with Cris. After that, they'll probably dismantle the division, at least I hope so.

Given that Holly has never had trouble making 135, I would say she is a legitimate BW.

In MMA, Holly is 100% a Bantamweight. A big one, but still a bantamweight.

I feel like people forget how small boxing weight cuts are.. Holly probably walks around 160. Holly vs Anderson at 145 would be fun I think though.

Anderson has nothing for Holly. Or Cyborg. Not even four years worth of fight experience, shit footwork, shit head movement (thank you Edmond) and shit striking defense. But I agree that people should not compare a weight cut from one sport to another. Sort of like people pointing out that Ronda competed at 154 in Judo. Night and day difference. Or how damn small the talent pool is in women's boxing.

I agree. Megan has power but Holly plays it way too safe and Megan is too slow. No chance Holly will be hit with a power shot and Megan is not a wrestler so I also see no chance of her winning. In my opinion, Megan vs Cat at 145 would be a really fun fight. Cats a great wrestler but is very hit-able. Will Cat rag doll Megan or will she get blasted by a power shot?

Molly McCann gets a UD over Priscila de Souza. (29-28 and 29-27x2) at Cage Warriors for those interested.

Given the greater level of talent at 135 in comparison to 145, I think Cat takes Megan. Who has Megan actually beaten?

Some weekend fight results:
TFC Dream 4:
115lbs: Si Yoon Park defeats Yeon Hwa Park by Unanimous decision. Si Yoon moves to 1-0, Yeon Hwa drops to 0-2. I hadn't gotten to watch Yeon Hwa's last fight, and Si Woo was a debutant, so I didn't know what to expect. Si Yoon looks to come from a boxing background, the way she punches and moves her head. Looks to have decent fundamentals there. Yeon Hwa was sloppy, often winging punches out of seeming desperation. Not sure how serious her training is, or if she just abandons it in the cage.

105lbs: Jae Choi defeats Eun Ha Kim by unanimous decision. Choi moves to 2-0, Kim drops to 0-1. Choi seems to like the clinch, and showed it in this fight. She looked to be the stronger of the two. Interesting note, she started crossfit to get into shape, and fell into training with Korean Top Team.

Road FC 43/ Young Guns 37:
115lbs: Yun Ha Hong defeats Yu Ri Shim by Unanimous decision. Hong moves to 1-4, Shim drops to 2-1. This was a rematch from their amateur careers, where Hong won by Unanimous decision. Since then, Hong has had a hard time in her career, a combination of bad matchmaking and worse luck. Shim took this fight on about a week's notice. Hong was originally scheduled to face a diferent opponent at 105lbs. Still, I thought Shim would have the advantage. She comes from a Muay Thai background, and has good knees in the clinch. Hong is a BJJ practitioner with a strong overhand right, but doesn't set it up well. First round was good, with Shim dropping Hong at one point, and Hong getting in a takedown or two. Second round was all Hong, who twice took the clinch to the cage and stayed close, scoring takedowns and good G&P on Shim.

KOTC: Locked In
105lbs: Lindsey VanZandt defeats Bi Nguyen by split decision. VanZandt moves to 3-0, Nguyen drops to 3-2. VanZandt was very aggressive with her grappling throughout the first two rounds, constantly threatening submissions, including an armbar and a reverse triangle. Nguyen took over in the third and finished strong as VanZandt appeared to be exhausted.

Dunno about the level of competition therearounds (and only 1 fight for gold), but nice that Green seems to be trying to improve her ground game on competitive level too, as it's the bigger weakness she has.

I guess with some other fights I have seen over the past two days. I figure people may have seen them but perhaps not.

Iony looked pretty great in that fight. I wouldn't be mad if that's Ariane Lipski's next fight, or Iony got a high profile flyweight fight in Bellator.

Agreed. I thought she did a great job and am looking forward to facing a tougher test on a bigger stage soon.

About 1 hour 39 min in for those interested. Getting the timing on it has been funky for some reason.

A little slow and choppy for me the first time I played it.

About 3 hours 10 min in. (There might be a single bout only but I haven't noticed it yet.)

Kseniya Lachkova (7-2) RU vs. Elena Bagnyuk (3-1) RU at Fightspirit Championship 7 (125lbs)

(I could have sworn I've seen this before.)

Elena Bagnyuk (3-1) RU vs. Vera Buga (0-0) RU at Golden Horde 4 (w = ? at the moment) (Fight starts at 12 min 30 sec in.)

This fight just happened the other day and many places don't even have it listed with a winner yet so people need to know about it and who wins it and how. I have not yet seen it, just posting it now.

I have seen the last bit of the fight now. Not conclusive as the fight was still going on but it looks like
Bangyuk was latching on an armbar in the first round. (Sucky luck not seeing the end of it.)

It will be up as an individual video in the next day or so.
