Those GOAT Supersonics teams of the mid 90s were built on Gary Payton's ability to smother opposing PGs for 94 feet

'93: Sonics 2nd DRtg
'94: Sonics 3rd DRtg
'95: Sonics 10th DRtg
'96 Sonics 2nd DRtg
'97 Sonics 7th DRtg

Sonics weren't shutting teams down because Sam Perkins was protecting the rim, is my pt

That was a different time where you can handcheck guards and none of them could shoot. Since point guards cant do that anymore their value om defense has diminished.

Westbrick must have seen the T-Wolves Love days. He was the goat stat padder on a bad team before Rustle.

Defense is not allowed in the NBA or NFL anymore. It's all just zOMG POINTZ!

Nate McMillan was a really good defender for them too in the backcourt. Hawkins was a matador.

Georgetown is considering hiring Patrick Ewing to be their headcoach. Guy is barely a coach, couldnt draw up a play to save his life.

He is awful. He just stood in he corner when he was with Houston and rebounded until after practice and then he tried to show the big men the jump hook.

Apparently Memphis was close to hiring him last year.

The part about shooting is actually a good point Dream. I'd counter it tho with the fact that 12 of the 32 players averaging >20 ppg this season are PGs (including 4 of the 6 highest scorers in the game) and the pick-n-roll is spammed constantly in just about every game. So the ability to defend the opposing PG is prioritized today perhaps moreso than at any prior point in NBA history

Handchecking is weird. It's technically illegal these days but it goes uncalled all the time

But most teams switch on pnrs though

Their perimeter D was arguably the GOAT prior to the Gill for Hawkins trade. Payton-Nate-Kendall would just shut teams down before they even got past halfcourt

Funny how Embiid got crushed for dancing on stage while injured and Parsons got a pass for sucking some :eek::eek:s tit.

It's because fat boy is irrelevant now outside of being the worst contract in the NBA. Embiid actually mattered for the 30 or so games he played. Unfortunately, his career is fucked.

Payton hated Gill because he thought he was gay (he isn't). That's why they dumped him. Payton apologized to him for that.
