Here is the headline all the news media was using....
Off Duty LAPD Officers Fires Weapon at Teens in Anaheim
Here is the video shared to the public. Of course there was protests and outrage!
Now.... here is a video released of another angle.
Here are the facts as revealed by the 2nd Video not aired.
(1) He has multiple trespassers on his property
(2) He I.D.'s himself as a police officer
(3) He is restraining a punk trespassing who was warned (possible arrest)
(4) He is then attacked by one trespasser knocking him back violently
(5) A second trespasser takes a violent swing at him
(6) A third trespasser coming at him is reaching into his back pocket for what appears to be a weapon (purple top). That does not count the kid he is enacting an arrest on who is a fourth trespasser acting physical as well.
I don't like that he discharged his gun, but I understand he was in a real bad position with multiple punks breaking the law. As an off duty officer he should carry his gun, some departments require it. That was at least 3 on `1 and maybe 4 on 1 if you count the punk he detained. He was never violent until attacked violently.
After the 2nd Video a local reporter went around an interviewed the neighbors. Apparently, these same punks have been trespassing, playing the asshole games, and harassing the residence on a regular basis.
