I think that's what he was talking about. I don't think there's been another political candidate referred to as a "messiah" like he was (although I think Ron Paul actually had more of a personality cult), but then he couldn't live up to those expectations and Clinton didn't have that sort of grand narrative, charisma or "not-Bush" appeal.

Why would they? He's not using religious language to promote any religion or to promote religiously motivated legislation. Atheists care when politicians want to violate the separation of church and state and Obama never suggested anything of the sort.

All kidding set aside, the way I construed Obama's words is that no politician is perfect, no leader is going to be the silver bullet or Panacea to the problems facing this country. Vote for people who have integrity and true to their words.

Exactly. He was just saying that people should go out and vote for quality people and not just stay at home waiting for a John F. Kennedy type to show up and sweep them off their feet.

He really could not have been more clear. This is just a case of people trying so hard to hate him that they'll sacrifice their own dignity pretending to misconstrue what he said.

As for Christians in Ireland, show me where in Scripture Christians are commanded to hate one another.

Do you have any idea why Protestantism became a thing? Also I dont give a fuck what you wanna call God/Jeebus..... just because Im not familiar with the name doesnt mean I cant engage in debates about religion, especially about Christians as I live near an island where religious wars were fought between different sects of Christians.

So according to you Christians can only hate another person or group if it is stated in scripture?
