North Korea Threatens to Scuddle Talks

No one wants that. I think most expect it to though. North Koreans have been dickbags since before any of us were even born.

Trump should stop negotiating too he should not oet himself get pushed arround by this Koreans

He has been to China three times since this process has started. He isn’t doing anything China isn’t telling to do.

Looks like Mr.Xi Ji Ping wants his ZTE back and running up first before they allow their boy Kim to get friendly.

I disagree, I believe all parties want this deal. I think Trump tipped his hand a bit for how badly he wants this deal, which has emboldened Kim to chest thump and demand more concessions.

I think cancelling military exercises until the summit was the best strategy.

I don't think Un wants the deal if you really think about it... Both NK and SK both have aspirations about reconciling the Korean Peninsula - which side do you expect to give up power when the future reconciliation happens?

I think we need to be very careful in that we don't have all the facts as citizens

This should be PMed to every Trump supporter insisting that's there's no evidence of collusion / obstruction and that Mueller is shifting his investigation because he's desperate to share Trump

Does Trump get the blame now that things are going south?

*yawn*

Kimmy will kiss the ring. He has no leverage. I could see a postponement in talks as a last ditch negotiating effort by Un, but Trump is not going to bend on this. If Kim backs out, it will be a very short lived defiance.

I can't facepalm hard enough over the insane naivete/gullibility/delusional grandstanding that it takes to think NK will ever, ever, evvvvvvvvvvvvvvver give up their nukes.
"But they said they would!"

Serious answer from somebody who despises Trump: not really.

A fully de-nuclearized NK just isn't in the cards and that isn't Trump's fault. Even if you got them to mothball all their nuclear infrastructure they now have the industrial base and the technological know-how to fire it back up any time they like. Non-proliferation is just really fucking hard especially once the genie is out of the bottle.

Assuming the entire thing doesn't fall apart and some of the rumors floating around can be believed, Trump will end up with something that scales back NK's ICBMs and some other WMD programs and stops the testing in exchange for economic relief and security guarantees. You can definitely laugh at Trump and his moron supporters because it will be the kind of deal that had a Democrat negotiated it they'd be screaming OMG WORST DEAL EVER, but it will still be at least somewhat better than the status quo. NK is a nuclear power and there's basically nothing anyone can do about that other than trying to bring them out of isolation and hopefully chill them the fuck out. If Trump can do that then I think he deserves some credit.

Step 1: Get nukes
Step 2: Secure international legitimacy of regime through "cooperation" and sanctions relief
Step 3: Continue monstrous oppression of populace with fresh cash and resource flow, increasing the survivability of the regime long term.

Well now North Korea is saying it will cancel talk with Trump if he insisted on North Korea giving up its nukes. After the Iran JCPOA fiasco, of course North Korea will keep its nuclear program alive. You don't break agreement without having consequences.

North Korea has threatened to abandon planned talks between leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump in June if Washington insists on pushing it "into a corner" on nuclear disarmament.

A statement published by the state-run Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) said North Korea would never accept economic assistance from the US in exchange for unilaterally abandoning its nuclear program.

Yeah it's not great but I can't see it being any worse than the current arrangement. Hopefully it will be a more comfortable tyranny and eventually with enough exposure to their neighbors and the rest of the world they'll realize what they're missing and decide to modernize.

North Korea doesn’t want to give up its nukes...

https://www.yahoo.com/news/latest-us-says-going-ahead-nkorea-summit-plan-200634561.html

North Korea's first vice foreign minister says the country has no interest in a summit with the United States if it's going to be a "one-sided" affair where it's pressured to give up its nukes.

The statement by Kim Kye Gwan on Wednesday came hours after the North abruptly canceled a high-level meeting with South Korea and threatened to do the same with a planned summit between leader Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump next month.

Kim Kye Gwan criticized recent comments by Trump's top security adviser John Bolton and other U.S. officials who have been talking about how the North should follow the "Libyan model" of nuclear disarmament and provide a "complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement."

He also criticized other U.S. comments that the North should completely abandon not only its nukes and missiles but also its biological and chemical weapons.

Kim says: "We will appropriately respond to the Trump administration if it approaches the North Korea-U.S. summit meeting with a truthful intent to improve relations."

He adds: "But we are no longer interested in a negotiation that will be all about driving us into a corner and making a one-sided demand for us to give up our nukes and this would force us to reconsider whether we would accept the North Korea-U.S. summit meeting."

Some analysts say bringing up Libya, which dismantled its rudimentary nuclear program in the 2000s in exchange for sanctions relief, would risk derailing any progress in negotiations with the North

Kim Jong Un took power weeks after former Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's gruesome death at the hands of rebel forces amid a popular uprising in October 2011. The North has frequently used Gadhafi's death to justify its own nuclear development in the face of perceived U.S. threats.

Its unfortunate but this response from Gwan is a fairly understandable position to take.

Hopefully the progress that has been made doesn't fall to shit.

Ultimately, a stronger position and legitimacy at the international bargaining table will only strengthen the regime. They don't have to give up jack damn squat, and will have major leverage over future administrations.
Not that there are an abundance of good options.

Well you see when they froze nuke development and missile tests in 2008 and then in 2012, they were just toying with the US , but this time... this time, it is cereal ! cause Trump plays 4d chess !

I am thinking the Iran response has given NK doubts as to whether we can hold our end of whatever bargain we negotiate on. Assuming we ask them to give up their nukes and all their uraniums what will prevent us from then slapping back the sanctions and fucking them over? I am not saying this is what I think we can do but maybe that’s what they are thinking the US could do.
