North Korea says it will permanently suspend ALL nuclear and ICBM tests, effective immediately.

This is the beginning of a huge foreign policy victory for Trump whether he deserves it or not.

I think North Korea had realized that Trump really is crazy enough to obliterate them.

Whether this is 4D chess or just dumb luck for Trump remains to be seen, but it's a big win.

He's gonna go down in the history books for denuclearizing NK.

I think this is a case where they feel they've developed the tech to an acceptable level where any more further investment would be a net negative. I know most people are ignorant on the topic and think NK is a joke with WW2 era tech but the facts say otherwise.

July 4th, 2017:

North Korea tested its first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) named Hwasong-14 on July 4.[45][46] It launched from the Panghyon Aircraft Factory 8 km southeast of Panghyon Airport.[47] It was aimed straight up at a lofted trajectory and reached more than 2,500 km into space.[48] It landed 37 minutes later,[49] more than 930 km from its launch site,[50] into Japan's exclusive economic zone.[51] Aiming long, the missile would have traveled 7,000–8,000 km or more, reaching Alaska, Hawaii, and maybe Seattle.[49][52][53][54][55] Its operational range would be farther, bringing a 500 kg payload to targets in most of the contiguous United States 9,700 km away.

November 28, 2017:

North Korea launched an ICBM from the vicinity of Pyongsong at 1:30pm EST/3:00am Pyongyang time. The rocket traveled for 50 minutes and reached 2800 miles (4,500 km) in height, both of which were new milestones. The missile flew 600 miles (1,000 km) east into the Sea of Japan; unlike summer launches, the Japanese government did not issue cellphone alerts to warn its citizens. North Korea called it a Hwasong-15 missile. Its potential range appears to be more than 8,000 miles (13,000 km), able to reach Washington and the rest of the continental United States.[68][69] Much about the missile is unknown. The missile might have been fitted with a mock warhead to increase its range, in which case the maximum missile range while carrying a heavy warhead might be shorter than 13,000 km. Based on satellite imagery, some experts believe that North Korea may now be able to fuel missiles horizontally, shortening the delay between when a missile becomes visible to when it can be launched.[68] The rocket is believed to have broken up on re-entry into the atmosphere.

That was their last test on November and by far the longest range they've ever demonstrated. a possible range of 7000-13,000 km. Enough to hit the entire continental US at the high range, and enough to hit Hawaii and parts of the US west coast at the low range. It looks to me like they're saying to the world "ok, now you know we can do this so don't even bother trying to invade and regime change here." Theres no need for further tests, they've already reached their milestones.

I can understand their game here with ultimate security for the regime. Pretty much if you are a nuclear power, you have far less of a chance of military conflicts with other countries. If their goal always had a phase 2 of developing their economy and opening up international relations after securing the regime with phase 1, they will be an interesting but skeptical event to watch play out. One could say these talks may all be occurring now because of the jump in their capabilities rather than anything else. They have more of a bargaining chip now but do they move forward with the right policies afterwards or just continue a sub-continental hostage situation in return for aid. These type of shitty regimes usually go for that because they can't effectively govern and the longer time goes on, it becomes far harder to turn things around as your populace doesn't know any other world.

I just find it difficult to believe in a world where economic relations begin with this country. What do they even have in place to trade or infrastructure to develop goods and services? Their entire industry has been making threats and receiving aid. They have been a leech to everyone involved.

I think we need to go ahead and make it a rule that if you're ordering bombings, you don't get the Prize. Just call Obama's prize a dubious experiment in Affirmative Action and we'll all flagellate ourselves for it.

Moon (SK), on the other hand...perhaps. Perhaps very much indeed. Time will tell.

Ttump should get a nobel peace prize beacause but obama.

If you wish to close yourself off from any thought that deviates from your preconceived notions, enjoy your life in a closed ideological loop. No growth, no direction, just spinning in your own loop.

Farmer boy says Obama is a dictator. Then fails to follow up with no additional information. Then says someone else is basically close minded.

Kind of bizzare...NK denuclearizes due to threats from Trump to bomb them to oblivion...give the man a nobel peace prize?

If trump succeeds in creating peace due to the sanctions and overwhelming military force he should get all the credit in the world for it...but a peace prize would be bizarre. I'm rooting for Trump to succeed in this one.

President Trump almost has this Korean peninsula problem all wrapped up.

At this point, there's really no disputing President Trump is the greatest President of the 21st century.

Bush descended our world into war.

Obama was the teary-eyed dictator, keeping us in perpetual War, to show us how much he "really" didn't want to.

President Trump has brought us closer to a lasting peace than any other President in our lifetimes.

Those who try to downplay this event due to partisanship will find themselves on the wrong side of history.
Obama was a dictator? Lmao!

Please back that statement up...

Probably never had anything in the first place. Nothing effective, atleast.

This is a great way to save face, and possibly extend Kim's reign by a couple of decades. Hell of a play, really. He bluffed all the way with a pair of twos, and made the whole world acknowledge him.
He's holding a lot more than a pair of twos. Detonating all their nuclear material, even just into the atmosphere, would be a worldwide disaster. It would be suicide, but for a guy who reportedly fed his uncle alive to dogs and lets his citizens die of starvation eating grass, maybe not too far-fetched as a final fuck you.

It remains to be seen if they actually surrender their nuclear material but let's hope so.

You must have typed that with your shaky hand. :D
