McDavid has done good work there. Talbot is the most under recognized players in the league. Take a look at his work schedule, he may as well be a Vietnamese sweat shop employee with the amount of games and shots he's going to end up this year.

But aside from McGoat and Leon, the rest of those guys have been incredibly underperforming and Lucic and to a lesser extent, Larsson have been busts (give Larsson more of a pass for being mildly solid in his own end) RNH is getting close Daigle status.

The Western Conference is also hella soft this year. It's a shame Rals isn't here to crow about it.

Larsson was just what the doctor ordered for the Oilers. He's got the misfortune of just not being good enough for a #1 role, much like Petry, but he's a solid player on a d line that, in recent years, had forgotten what a solid player looked like. But yeah, holy shit does RNH ever suck.

#1 defensemen are a precious commodity, it's a shame Edmonton kept getting the #1 pick in drafts where there was a pretty obvious forward choice to be made, they could have dodged a bullet with Yakupov in a draft deep with defenseman, but he was a fireball in junior. Then they miss out on Ekblad, though to be honest he's not really the type they needed, and Draitsil (can't spell it for the life of me) or whatever has been a nice pickup.

You gave up Hall for him though, which I agree hall was expendable for a top D man ---but damn, Larsson, even at +15 and 17 points is not worth it. I want to see the transcripts of calls George Costanza made that day.

And I can't stress how fucking stellar Talbot has been -- he's only had 4 games off and gets paid 1.25 million a year!? The Leafs paid Andersen 5 because they knew he would get a massive work load -- but Cam is having a way harder load and putting up better numbers.

If there was a value player of the year award, I would give it to him. Hell, I'd consider him for the Lindsay award.

Talbot has always been pretty underrated. Montreal would end up playing against him a lot when he played for New York and I honestly preferred playing against Lundqvist. Something about french canadian goaltenders playing against Montreal, they all play out of their minds against us.

You're right that the return ends up being a little light for Edmonton, but that's sort of a ''currency exchange fee'' between wingers and dmen.

One of their major problems this season though has been driving play through any line that McDavid isn't on. They dominate possession numbers and all other numbers when he's on the ice and basically get shelled and hope Talbot can bail them out the rest of the game. A player like Hall who can produce secondary scoring and drive a line possession-wise on is own is something they really need now.

They created a new hole to fill a hole and just covered it up with a full season of McJesus and Talbot.

Rather than trading Hall and signing Lucic (who has been a massive bust) they could have spent the money on a free agent defensemen of Larsson calibre or better (Yandle, Demers). Or made a trade involving the expendable RNH (after Draisaitl emerged as a star) instead of a LW you don't have cover for.

They added a league MVP and decided to just run Talbot into the ground so their record obviously looks nicer but I still think their off season moves over all were pretty terrible. That Lucic contract is bad today I can't even imagine how bad it'll look in 6 years

The justification for it was revolving around Hall not being cool with being 2nd fiddle to the McDavid show -- and that by trading for Larsson it opened up cap room to include Lucic, who Chiarelli is found of, but maybe has rose tinted lenses on when assessing his current state. Larsson was a high pick and did solid on NJ but he was playing with Greene who is one of the most dependable shut down guys in the NHL (not flashy but reliable) so he benefited immensely from that. Again, i would love to see a transcript of the calls he made that day because Hall should've driven a higher return.

And Lucic, Eberle and RNH are all having abysmal years, but Lucic particularly as he was given 32? straight games on top line with McDavid and still had a terrible corsi ON. Now the fucked themselves with Talbot, who is probably exhausted and sore but has to be played more due to their sliding in the standings + if they do make the playoffs, he'll probably go in playing around 75 games this season. Total mismanagement,

Holy fuck, that game was brutal. Just a complete no-show.

Rielly and Zaitsev need to be seperated.

    Lucic has been a bust ? ? ?

He seems to be doing a good job at what they brought him in for. That being protecting McDavid. If not, then McDavid already be on the injured reserve, and his future in serious doubt because of the horrific injuries that would have been wrought on him by now.

Sid obviously had a problem with Marchand pulling so many g-notes this season. I am actually feeling pretty good about the repeat chances, just have to play up to potential.
