For the price, and the fact that it does not require additional power the 1050 Ti is a nice budget card. NVidia is really shutting AMD out this generation with it's line up.

It sucks because AMD is at that point if Zen flops, they're going to be in big trouble. They already had a huge loss last quarter.
Zen has been confirmed for a January 2017 release though http://wccftech.com/amd-zen-summit-ridge-launch-q4-2016/
I think just about every person that builds there own pc's are rooting for AMD.

Of course we are rooting for AMD. Competition is a good think. If ZEN can deliver performance around Skylake, does not even have to beat it, at a cheaper price AMD will have a hit. My worry is that they are going to try and compete with Intel top end stuff and miss the budget market. AMD makes some strange decisions.

Phanteks is releasing a couple more tempered glass side cases. The Luxe, Evolv ATX, Pro M, and the P400 have a tempered side option now.

I got a GTX 970, but it looks like I might be picking up a 1060 at some point after X-mas.

Unless you're the type that wants the newest of the new, the price/performance upgrade you're going to get isn't going to be worth.
970's are going for around $180 max on ebay right now. A new 1060 6gb low end is going to be $250. So you're going to be pulling $70 out of your pocket to upgrade a few FPS.

This is more how I tend to do things. I bought a 980TI about 2 years ago (might have been a year and a half, can't remember exactly). I run that with my 760 for PhysX and haven't encountered any problems with any new games. I figure in about a year I'll get another 980TI and put them in SLI and I'll be good for another 2-3+ years as long as I don't go 4K. Even then I imagine I'd be sitting alright.

That and a new mobo for me. Hearts of Iron gets pretty damn slow towards the end of the game, and it's all of the simulation logic.

Have you tested without the PhysX card? I seem to remember seeing something about how it actually hurts performance now.

Jefferz is right, the price isnt worth the small upgrade. Like you i have the 970 and have been keeping an eye on the new 1K Nvidia series. Only one performance wise worth the upgrade is 1080. An the current price point of the 1080 (to me) is far to high.

Really? No I haven't tried that but I'm curious. I'll try it and run it through 3DMark

I'm wrong. What I seen was they were using a 730 as a PhysX card and it dropped frames. A 750ti helped.

Oh interesting. I'm still going to give it a shot with my setup. I just got in so it's a little late but I'm making a note to give it a run tomorrow and I'll report back.

Don't do it! The 1060 is, in terms of performance, just a 970 on the Pascal architecture. It's a decent time own a 970. A 1080 Ti is most likely just around the corner and that means price drops :D

Edit: Personally I just follow a tick-tock schedule a la Intel.

I agree with this. Two year upgrades for GPU still make more sense, unless you are moving up to a higher level of GPU to match an monitor/resolution upgrade.
