I doubt many of the people answering the survey even know much about him. This probably has more to do with the media than Putin himself. Putin's been around for almost 20 years, and just in the last year have these polls had much wiggle, with Dems dropping support as the media tells them, and more republicans going the other way to defy media. I'd be very surprised if even 1 in 10 of these people could answer anything about the guy.
