Hi,

Four years ago, I was a healthy individual. Long story short, one day during muay thai sparring I got hit in the head in a strange way and thought it was a light concussion. Overtime I continued with other sports and it turned out I somehow injured my neck (whiplash or something). My neck became very tight and ears were sensitive to high pitched sound. It was also difficult to turn the head.

Four years later, my neck still gets occasionally tight but I can do weight lifting and non-contact sports. The only issue is that I cannot "smash" anything. I cannot hit the heavy bags even moderately or I cannot run, because it jolts something in the neck and the neck becomes uncomfortable and tight the day after. I cannot even clap too hard.

My dream of taking part in a few muay thai smokers was quashed. Does anyone have any advice? I want to be able to at least get back to hitting heavy bags.

MRIs show nothing and the doctors don't know what is wrong :(

Thanks,
Shuheng

Honestly man, do you really thing it's best to ask those kind of advice here?
I understand you would like to find some reassurance and it's hard to have your dreams crashed from injuries, but either continue looking for help from professionals or try to move on...

Anyway good luck.

Sounds like that strike in your MT class fucked something up with your neck.

Get that checked out by a doctor.

Xrays etc will be necessary

Somewhat of a med-school drop out here. I'd say it's nerve related. The important part is that you don't feel it worsens.

Man if I were you I would get massages, acupuncture, and hell I would even try chiropractors.

We are professionals though, Sherdoggers and all that

Ever seen a doctor about this? If not, I think you should.
Sorry to hear.

I have the same problem. If the MRIs don't show any protrusions or bulges it's a tough one.

I would suggest seeking out an expert in cervical (neck) issues. Either a physiotherapist or a doctor with a good reputation, who specialises in that field. More gentle forms of manual treatment might help, but manipulations or any form of "cracking" might make it way worse. Don't go see a chiro.

You have to be diagnosed first, or at least they have to have an idea of what the issue is in actuality.

If you find someone and you get better, let us know please. Hope you recover.
