Does anyone have a link to anyone teaching a Nate Diaz blood style guillotine from guard? Everything I can find is either poorly demonstrated or pure trechea crush. Cash Bill 52 I'm looking at you.

Nick and Nate just make shit up on the fly, to make it work for the situation. Pure creativity.

I've seen him pull off that particular guillotine a few times and it looks like it's drilled and specific. Or maybe he's just that fricken good that perfect technique is just pulled out of his ass. Either way is completely believable. You train at Cesar's right?

The Guillotines that Nate hit on Junior, Gray, and Melvin were actually a little different than this one.

We did this setup last night in no gi class. It is sick and the choke comes on so fast it isn't funny.

Looked a lot like an armless anaconda, or a fig-4 guillotine. It was beautifully executed, one of the best I've seen in MMA. According to my lessons that is how the guillotine is supposed to be done, but because the windpipe crush can also work and is easier people do that more often.

EDIT: Bruce - my previous instructor was a guillotine wizard, he taught the guillotine as:
reach deep and across, you want you elbow pit on the trachea, not your forearm blade
your shoulders should be 30-45 degrees off parallel with the choking arm's shoulder as the lower one
you fold the head AND twist while crunching, you NEVER pull away

The most granular details are lost to memory but I remember those points.

To me it looks like a deeper variant of Marcelo's elbow-lift guillotine. He's just getting the elbow under the chin for the blood choke instead of the forearm under the chin for the trachea choke.

The leg comes over at :40. Maybe Marcus was finished before he switched to "hookless."

IMO He didn't have the hook over till the end cause Marcus was on his side with his back pinned to the cage - preventing him from rotating away and relieving the pressure of the choke. The cage did the job the hook would usually do. Or that's just how I see it.
