BLACK's Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah in Talks to Direct BAD BOYS FOR LIFE

fEYWjxq.jpg

Looks like Bad Boys are back in town and the Boys from Belgium will bring them to the screen. Sony Pictures is negotiating with the film making team of Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah to direct Bad Boys For Life, the action comedy that will bring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence back together, with an August production start being sighted. Jerry Bruckheimer is back as producer.

The most recent draft of the script is by Chris Bremner. This has long been a priority project at Sony, to re-team the stars of the 1995 original, which helped turned Smith into a global superstar and put Lawrence on the A-list as his partner.

El Arbi & Fallah are the Moroccan-born duo who were raised in Belgium and who burst onto the scene with Black, a Romeo & Juliet-type drama set in the world of organized crime in Belgium. It was a sensation in Toronto. The duo most recently directed the pilot and establishing episodes of the FX crack plague series Snowfall, and they are attached to several big movies including Beverly Hills Cop 4.

In addition to the film, NBC is casting for their upcoming untitled Bad Boys spinoff TV series. The show stars Gabrielle Union as Syd Burnett, reprising her role from Bad Boys II. Ernie Hudson was recently cast in the show, and he’ll play Joseph Burnett, Syd’s father.

Emily Blunt to Star with Dwayne Johnson in Disney's Live-Action JUNGLE CRUISE

Emily Blunt is set to star alongside Dwayne Johnson in Disney’s “Jungle Cruise,” sources tell Variety.

Jaume Collet-Serra is on board to direct the film based on the Walt Disney World ride. Oscar nominee Michael Green (“Logan”) penned the most recent draft of the script. He rewrote a screenplay by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. The film is based on the classic theme park attraction, which operates in several Disney Parks across the globe and takes guests on a guided tour through the rivers of the world.

Disney sees the film as another major franchise in the vein of its billion dollar “Pirates of the Caribbean” series and Johnson and Collet-Serra have found time in the stars busy schedule to map out how they see this film going.

Johnson and the team see the film inspired by “The African Queen” starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn and hope to see the similar kind of chemistry with this pairing. Sources say Disney has been over the moon with early footage of Blunt in “Mary Poppins” returns and was looking for a way to keep her in the family with another potential franchise.

Johnson is coming off his monster hit “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” which just crossed the $800 million world wide box office milestone which includes $337 million at the domestic box office. The star has busy 2018 ahead of him with his tentpoles “Rampage” and “Skyscraper” both bowing this year.

“Jungle Cruise” is currently slated to go into production in May.

The film marks Blunt’s third collaboration with Disney, having previously worked on the musical “Into the Woods” and the upcoming “Mary Poppins Returns,” where she will star as the title character opposite Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Blunt can be seen next in Paramount’s supernatural horror film “A Quiet Place” opposite husband John Krasinski, who is also directing. She is repped by CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.

Chris Pratt's COWBOY NINJA VIKING Finds Its Director in Michelle MacLaren

Michelle MacLaren, who is best known for her award-winning work on the acclaimed television shows Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, has nabbed the gig to direct Chris Pratt in Universal’s Cowboy Ninja Viking.

The studio prioritized the project, which has been in development since 2014, in the summer when it dated the action movie for a June 28, 2019, release.

MacLaren beat out Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda) and Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) for the gig.

Cowboy Ninja Viking tells of a counter-intelligence unit that uses multiple personality disorder patients to create agents known as Triplets, referring to the three personalities the killers have. When the agents become rogue hired guns, the deadliest Triplet of them all, Cowboy Ninja Viking, is called in to take down his own brethren.

The project is based on the Image Comics title by A.J. Lieberman and illustrator Riley Rossmo.

Craig Mazin (The Hangover II) wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay. The original draft was penned by Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

MacLaren is one of the most in-demand helmers for prestige and big-budget TV shows, also having worked on such hits as Westworld, The Leftovers, The Walking Dead and most recently the pilot for HBO's The Deuce, in addition to her lauded efforts on Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.

It was that work that prompted Warners to originally set her to direct Wonder Woman, although the two sides later parted ways over creative differences.

MacLaren is also attached to direct the World War II thriller The Nightingale at TriStar, but with Viking’s release date set, it looks as though her feature debut will be the Pratt picture.

Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment Teaming for Super Mario Bros. Movie

Mario is heading back to the big screen. Nintendo is working with Illumination Entertainment on a movie based on its most iconic game character, with legendary creator Shigeru Miyamoto set to produce with Illumination head Chris Meledandri.

There were no details on the title, release dates or storyline, but Universal Pictures will handle distribution worldwide.

The announcement came via a press release on the Kyoto-headquartered game maker's website on Thursday morning, local time, the day after it announced its third-quarter financial results. The news also appeared on Nintendo of America's official Twitter page.

Illumination Entertainment is the studio behind the billion-dollar Despicable Me franchise and such recent hits as Sing and Secret Life of Pets.

Mario's return to movies follows the 1993 live-action film Super Mario Bros. The pic, which starred Bob Hoskins as the cheeky Italian plumber and John Leguizamo as his brother Luigi, was critically panned and a huge-box office flop, which reportedly put Nintendo off movie adaptations of Mario or any of its other characters for many years.

FATE OF THE FURIOUS' F. Gary Gray to Direct MEN IN BLACK Spinoff Movie

YyZNexy.jpg

F. Gary Gray is the choice to direct the Men In Black film that will relaunch the franchise for Sony and Amblin. Negotiations are underway toward a deal.

Gray is enjoying a mid-career trajectory that began with Straight Outta Compton, and then extended most recently to the third highest global grossing film of 2017, The Fate Of The Furious. The film grossed $1.2 billion. Men in Black has a script by Iron Man scribes Matt Holloway & Art Marcum and the studio greenlit the picture on their draft.

Sony, which is coming off a big hit in reviving the Jumanji franchise, is hungry for more and the studio has set a June 14, 2019 release date.

Sony and Amblin have been trying to figure out the best way to relaunch the series, after the original pairing of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith ran its course in the 2012 third installment. The attempts included a spinoff film that would meld Sony’s 21 Jump Street cast members Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill into an extraterrestrial spinoff. This film isn’t that one. Rather, it is a spinoff grounded in the original premise, of a covert force policing the alien population hiding in plain sight, the premise of the comic book series by Lowell Cunningham and Sandy Carruthers.

Neither Jones nor Smith are expected to be back. They’ll relaunch the franchise with a new cast, much the way that Spielberg did with Jurassic World.

Sony and Amblin are giving the keys to the big-budget extravaganza to Gray at a good time for the filmmaker; after the sleeper hit Straight Outta Compton grossed over $200 million on a $28 million budget, he took on the $250 million budget The Fate of the Furious, and delivered a crowdpleasing film that became the 12th-highest global grossing pic of all time for Universal. This film mixes action with comedy, and Gray has a broad background in both; he launched the Friday franchise and has helmed Set If Off, The Negotiator, Law Abiding Citizen and The Italian Job.

Trailer for Romantic Drama SUBMERGENCE Starring James McAvoy, Alicia Vikander

Submergence is a love story that takes us into the extremely different worlds of our two protagonists, Danielle Flinders (Alicia Vikander) and James More (James McAvoy). They meet by chance in a remote hotel in Normandy where they both prepare for a dangerous mission. They fall in love almost against their will, but soon recognize in each other the love of their lives. When they have to separate, we find out that James works for the British Secret Service. He’s involved in a mission in Somalia to track down a source for suicide bombers infiltrating Europe. Danielle ‘Danny’ Flinders is a bio-mathematician working on a deep sea diving project to support her theory about the origin of life on our planet. Soon, they are worlds apart. James is taken hostage by Jihadist fighters and has no way of contacting Danny, and she has to go down to the bottom of the ocean in her submersible, not even knowing if James is still alive…

I get the premise, they going to parallel their stories of near death experience. This wont work out.
