Hamilton says what Raikkonen has to be thinking.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says it is "clear" that Ferrari has chosen Sebastian Vettel as its number one driver, over team-mate Kimi Räikkönen, after he exploited strategy to win the Monaco Grand Prix.

Räikkönen, who started on pole position, controlled the early stages of Sunday's race, but was the first of the Ferrari drivers to pit and came back out in traffic, while Vettel pumped in quick times.

Vettel pitted five laps later to rejoin the circuit just ahead of Räikkönen, soon building up a sizeable lead, before surviving a late Safety Car period, to record his third victory of the season.

Hamilton speaks from experience as he saw Mercedes get a championship for Rosberg to keep him happy only to have it backfire when Rosberg retired.

The race was going to be a one stop because the ultra soft tires would last the whole race. Other teams will only pit once so you can't afford 2 stops. The only reason they had to pit was to change to the slower soft tires. Strategy should have been to run on the ultra soft tires as long as possible. The ideal would be to find an opening in the traffic and pit both cars at the same time. I don't really understand why they only pit one at a time but since they do, they should do one one lap and the other the next as they could get caught out by a safety car. The only reason to bring the leader in is if there is an opening in traffic. That opening would likely be there on the next lap also. When Ferrari pitted Raikkonen, he didn't come out of the pit clear of traffic. Then they waited to pit Vettel letting him make fast laps on the ultra soft tires in fairly clear track. As the leader, lap cars have to move over for him. Once Raikkonen cleared traffic, Ferrari brought Vettel in with enough of a time difference to come out ahead of Raikkonen.

To be fair Mercedes already backed Hamilton the last race when they left Bottas out to slow down Vettel. Not that there is anything wrong with it.
I think it's totally fine to have a number 1 driver. Especially this season where everything can happen.

Nobody needed to slow Vettel, his car slowed for some reason that was enough to allow Hamilton to pass him.

I don't know his tires looked pretty bad. But they didnt take him in until after Vettel past him on the track. Not sure they would have done the same with Hamilton.
Because Bottas was a couple of seconds slower on those old tires.

suffice it to say, there is always gamesmanship going on, even at this elite level of racing. holding someone up entering pit lane, delaying a pass from a rival team driver, etc.
it goes on constantly, albeit on a more subtle, nuanced level in F1 than say in
Nascar or other series.

The green, white, checker finish at Pocono turned into green and wreckers with a crash on the restart taking out a bunch of cars and ending the race.

I watched the Winton SuperSprint V8 Supercar race and cars were spinning out all over on a dry track with no pressure. Looked like a bunch of drunks.

I also watched the New England Nationals drag racing. They kept talking about the stands being full and kept showing the crowd. Lots of gray hair.

What will Fernando Alonso be driving next year? He says Mclaren has to start winning by September when he will make the decision. That is highly unlikely as the Honda powered McLarens can't finish a race, much less win one. Alonso's car had problems in the first qualifying session and eventually had to be parked due to a hydraulic problem.

Hamilton wins the pole for the Canadian Grand Prix. It is his 65th pole tying Ayrton Senna. He has been wearing helmets painted like Senna's and Ayrton's family presented him with one of Senna's used helmets in the post qualifying ceremony. It really choked Hamilton up.

huge crash on lap 153 fort worth in Indycar from totally avoidable contact.
these guys don't impress with their driving ability IMO, Kanaan with a total shit move.
8 cars out just like that

It's been like a demolition derby. Shit tires. Making them change tires every 30 laps then screwing up notifying the teams that they would throw a caution. Then they didn't clean up the floor dry very well.

Here we go again. Sato going kamikaze. Will Power wins it.

good grief, they have competition yellows in this too?
stupid.
and to finish a race like this under caution is beyond belief. 11 cars left in the race.
no wonder the series is dying

They had to. The tires would only last a little over 30 laps so they made it mandatory to change them every 30 laps for the final section of the race.

wide open racing.
pits are always open.
use as many tires as you want.
refuel whenever you think it's necessary.

modern American racing is killing itself.

Alonso falls out again from 10th.
