Windy at Indy today and possible rain and storms the rest of the week.
How is he doing?
Alonso was 4th fastest in Wednesday's practice after being 22nd Tuesday but many teams weren't on track much due to the winds. Alonso was 3 mph slower than the fastest cars on Wednesday. All cars were several mph slower in the wind.
Terrible news about Nicky Hayden.
just fucking horrible news. saw him when motoGP used to come to Laguna Seca.
this comes a couple of weeks after pro cyclist Michele Scarponi was killed on a training ride.
fucking ppl aren't paying attention to cyclists.
There may not be any qualifying at Indy today due to thunderstorms in the area. It's forecast to clear starting Sunday after 2PM. Monday looks dry but then more showers in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
The rain stopped and they started drying the track at 2PM. They started qualifying at 4PM on a green track. Order was determined by a drawing. They have to run the 4 lap average so it takes a while. They are going to allow all entries one attempt at qualifying so they will likely run until around 7PM local time.
The fastest nine qualifiers on Saturday, and therefore those who will compete for the Verizon P1 Award on Sunday are as follows:
1) Ed Carpenter - 230.468 mph
2) Takuma Sato - 230.382 mph
3) Scott Dixon - 230.333 mph
4) JR Hildebrand - 230.205 mph
5) Alexander Rossi - 230.148 mph
6) Will Power - 230.072 mph
7) Fernando Alonso - 230.034 mph
8) Tony Kanaan - 230.007 mph
9) Marco Andretti - 229.924 mph
Bourdais with a huge crash during qual.
hope he's ok
What a boring ass race. Thank God I didn't go this year.
That crash was very strange. He must have let go of the wheel early because the wheels never turned. Usually when a race driver is headed straight at a wall they turn the wheels. Even a right turn might have started a spin instead of going straight in. It was eerily like Ayrton Senna's fatal crash.
well, it looks like he tried to correct out of it, but the counter steer didn't work so he let it go maybe hoping to track out, but at that speed and his position on the track, no way that was happening.
I think the whole thing was initiated by too quick of a turn down to the line, then he got oversteer
and it was lights out.
Bourdais with a fractured pelvis and hip. I doubt if he will drive again this season.
just glad he's alive tbh.
easily could have been a fatality.
I guarantee his HANS device did it's job.
Nicky Hayden has passed from his injuries. He was only 35.
Fuck! I would always go to Laguna Seca when they had the MotoGp races here in CA. Deeply sadden by this news.
RIP The Kentucky Kid.
Franchitti and Dixon robbed at Taco Bell. Why would Indy drivers go to Taco Bell?
yea, just read the story about dixon/franchitti.
glad they didn't get shot by the little fuckers.
heart-broken to hear Nicky passed. so ironic that he competed in such a dangerous sport and survived but gets taken out by a car on his bike. I have no words.
Yep that's what gets me too. Sometimes it's just luck man...whether good or bad. I'm usually really good about paying attention at stop lights but one time I was spacing out when the light turned green and I was a couple seconds delayed when I started to go. Just as I started to pull away, a car ran the red light at 50+ mph from the left and would have t-boned me right in the drivers side door if I had been paying better attention to the light.
I hear ya, mang.
so close, so many times.
Mercedes making some bad decisions at Monaco. After Hamilton was fastest in P1 with Bottas 4th, they were both slower and 8th and 10th in P2.
