I drive through Chicago often, and have even driven through, hung-around Chicago's South Side. Never felt in any danger. Have gone to Detroit too, and also never felt in any danger. I'm sure there are dangerous areas and the danger may be mostly at night, but the way people paint these cities online, is an exaggeration, sometimes a gross exaggeration.

I don't think its an exaggeration to say that there are some seriously bad areas that do need attention, but those are not places people are going to be spending time at unless they live there already.

Anyone visiting or being a tourist is not going to experience gun violence where they will be spending time.

Sure some bad areas, but this internet meme of how violent Chicago are is just rightwing bullshit. My family has a business in a midWestern city not too far from Chicago. People from elsewhere think the city is dangerous, but that is soo off the mark. I think it's a bit like an urban legend, where people just start repeating what they hear.

This talks about murders, as in crime, that means only countries where there is an effective government are counted.

Places where they dont even count the dead or countries at war will of course not be added to the list.

Also Pakistan may be a shithole but their society is highly repressive, both in government and through tribal authorities and their communities are tight and religion plays a pacifying role on it.
