We always talk about about how you can't bull shit when doing BJJ right? What was your most humbling experience doing BJJ? Mine was first day in BJJ class. I thought I was going to be doing okay in my first day, since I did some back yard grappling with my buddies.

I was paired up with a real skinny blue belt that we all call "Beiber" because he has the Justin Beiber haircut. I didn't think, much of him, because he was just real scrawny. But damn, when he rolled, he was smashing me with triangles from hell. Turns out, he's like our next star pupil. It's always fun to see now, because everytime we get a new guy, we always pair him up with Beiber.

Lets see 2 finger carotid choked out the first day. I remember turtling up and then blacking out like the end of old movies. So peaceful...then waking up with everyone looking at me.

I have no training at all but was a 2nd tier junior varsity wrestler. I decided to go to a grappling tourney. First sub I had a guy sitting on my face and he kimura'd me. (no pain surprisingly.)

2nd loss was an armbar while I was still fighting. Popped my elbow and now, a full month later, its still real sore. I was stupid fought a third match. Guy was 50% towards armbarring the same arm so I tapped. I shouldn't have wrestled on the messed up elbow.

I went thinking I was gonna out wrestle, maybe even get some subs. boy was I wrong

One time my GF got full mount on me. I thought she was just going to ride me out, but then she finished me in 30 seconds.

Isn't it crazy how the minutes roll by so slowly when you're getting beat up?

Mine was probably getting smashed by a dude I had 40lbs on.

My instructor is a blue belt, he is 5'5 and 130 lbs, I'm 5'11 and 172 lbs.

he kicks my ass every single time... also he is 19 and I am 24. I got subbed regularly by smaller guys (blue belts) at our academy. every single class is a humbling experience for me.

First time I ever rolled after class. There was this 17 year old kid who was probably about 5'8 230 (all fat), had braces, and looked exactly like Chunk from the goonies. I was 38 5'11 and about 220. I figure I am going to take it easy on the kid even though I don't know what I'm doing, I'm sure I'm just a lot stronger than him.

Of course he positionally dominated me the whole match, took my back, threatened me with a bunch of subs. He never caught me but pretty much man handled me the entire roll. That opened my eyes in a big way about the effectiveness of this art.

Now that I look back it was a good lesson to learn the first time you roll. Never took anyone lightly after that.

Im brand new to the sport, only five classes but I would say my most humbling experience was getting paired with a blue belt who was overweight, could barely see without his glasses and frankly just looked like some guy I wouldn't think twice about anywhere else. He then proceeded to make me feel like a baby who was powerless to stop him from doing anything he wanted, now I have mod props for the guy. Oh, and the first time I was able to pass guard and get mount, I was so proud for a half a second then before I knew it I was swept and on the bottom again......so humbled.

First time I rolled with Augusto Ferrari.

I had just received my purple belt and he destroyed me.

The fact that I weighed like 145 at the time didn't help.

Also, wrestling with my trainer who was pretty much worldclass back when he competed.

He isn't a big guy, but man can he wrestle.

    Like 40 pounds?

National BJJ champion, has two wins over Galvao and he's the only guy who didn't get tapped by Lister this year in his division.

Against a 17 year old 150 pound me (I was probably 150 at the time).

but how in hell that could be a humble experience for you???? were you expecting to kick his ass??... If I were in your Place I would be proud to at least roll with a guy like that, doesn't matter if he kicks my ass (because it is what is expected to happen).

    Because I am insanely competitive.

If I rolled with Marcelo tomorrow, I'd want to tap him, even though that would obviously not happen.
