Tyson made 400 - 500 millions of $. Assuming we have a time machine ... how much could a prime tyson earn in this era? Imo billions.

At this point doesn’t being a convicted rapist harm your earnings?

yeah, no doubt. but tyson fought alot of bums too while making a ton of money back then. i just don't think the money is the same anyore within the sport, so even tyson wouldn't make more now than he made back then.

jesus, i don't think we could calculate that, if a boring fighter like Mayweather can make what he does, imagine what a guy could who actually fascinated and electrified everyone?

for a boxer? it didn't seem to hurt mike at all, he was making boque dough until he lost to holyfield and even then he was making money and getting a million second chances that no one else would get. I think the public was split on the rape to begin with and I also think people are hypocritical, i recall how bad they ran mike down when he was sent to prison and most of those same people welcomed him back to the sport with open arms because he was great for the sport. and....tyson wasn't the only one in history, people don't talk about it because it's ancient history but jack dempsey was on trial for rape, was suppossed to be a pimp and all kinds of bad things, no one even talks about it today. He was, of course, very unpopular in his prime. tony ayala is one guy who no one sympathized with because he was just a fucking animal, he ripped open a screen and raped a lady, when he got out, he tried to rape someone else and got shot. I think people feel tyson was kinda railroaded.

be interesting seeing how he would handle these bigger guys today. His size was definitely a huge disadvantage for him.

The match-up all depends on the opponent. If he fancies a stroll in the park against the likes of Ortiz then ticket sales flop and neither fighter makes a windfall. On the other hand, a top-of-the-bill boxer such as Joshua or Wilder - with strong promotion - gets the fans going and can rise to a nine-figure event.

Didn't Tyson make a good amount of money his first fight out of prison? And that was against Peter Mcneeley.

Yeah but early 90s isn’t the same as right now where every celebrity ever is being accused of being a sexual deviant.

I’ve had people say “I can’t watch the usual suspects/se7en/American beauty anymore because Kevin spacey.”

I’ll digress for a minute, mena Suvari was (is?) amazing.

So in the current climate no, I don’t think he’d be about billions.

If you’re saying I can make him not stand up in court and say “I’ve raped women before, but I didn’t rape her”. Make him not hire king as a promoter, I can surround him with non corrupt legal and financial advisers and tell him not to buy a fucking tiger, maybe.

Most athletes aren't overpaid. That's pretty stupid. The top few can earn ridiculous amounts but the rest make hardly anything.

He was making over a million PPV buys back in those days. He would be doing 3m+ each time, and for the biggest ones i.e an American equivalent of Joshua, it'd be 6m+
