I admit, I'm partial to 60s & 70s
era psychedelic. Especially
German, Brazilian & american.

But there are definitely some
modern bands that have carved
out their own sound in what is
already a dense & diverse genre
& landscape of music.

Doing a bit of reading now...but I shall contribute later. Whatever happened to the other pysch thread?

Was wondering the same thing.
Couldn't find it on the first couple
of pages. Plus, I was hoping the
distinction of "modern" would've
been enough to merit it's own thread.

If mods disagree & they find the
original psych thread, feel free to
merge!

Whole album is great. But the
shining moment is at 27:00.
"Caprock & shelf" can't find the
song on its own...

Here's a mind bending french act:

Soft Hearted Scientists

as told by Nathan Hall

Dylan and I met when were both at quite a low ebb in our lives; at a loose end; searching for something, yet somehow not quite vulnerable enough to fall for Scientology, Tolkien DVD boxsets or Zumba. Instead we somehow both fell in with a travelling mime troupe specialising in medieval pageants as it passed first through Dylan’s rural Shropshire village, then, two weeks later, Cardiff. After two weeks of incredible dedication to the silent arts, we got to chatting and experienced a mortifying moment of self-awareness, followed by 6 weeks of ever more eye rolling and sniggering to ourselves. Much to the consternation of the rest of the troupe, we eventually realised that theatrically pouring invisible jugs of mead into invisible goblets, and gurning moronically like medieval Mr Tumbles was a foolish and pointless enterprise, and escaped through an invisible portcullis of our own making into a brave new world of psychedelic music making.

They sound like a great mix of
British space rock & German Krautrock

That was my first Yellow Swans
listen, essie. I'm a big fan of Liz
Harris, but imo, she has deviated too
far from Dragging a Dead Deer & I
don't find myself enjoying her releases
as consistently as I once did. Her last
complete album imo was AIA.

I do like a lot of Foxygen's stuff -

I'm always a sucker for psych that
has a punk edge to it. Never heard
these guys. Thanks man.

Cornelius from Japan is solid

I agree about Grouper but I mean A I A and everything before is so important to my life she gets a pass. Her collab with Jefre Cantu-Ledesma was good too. I like Cornelius because I like any music that incorporates the sound of water.

Agree wholeheartedly. Nice to know
that there are others who have her
in the deep recesses of their heart.
I've shared some invaluable moments
with her music.

I gotta check that out. Have you
heard her collab with Montgomery?

I agree again. Here's some songs
you might enjoy (not modern, so I'll
spoiler tag em)

I had heard it when it came out but probably not since then! I will revist. I have two of those songs on my water mix, hadn't heard the Lauryn Hill one!

That Balam Acab sampled Kath
Bloom! I love her! & lol Am I weird
for liking the smell of rain on pavement?

These are awesome, essie, thank you.
You have great taste.

I couldn't find "Sea Green & Cyan"
by itself, but it falls under the same
vein as water-like music. Plus, it's modern

Kath Bloom is everything, for sure. The Breeze (and Bill Callahan's cover) kills me. :p And who doesn't love the smell of rain on pavement?

That dude that she collab'd with
for that release, Loren Mazzacane
Conors is a dude I've been vaguely
following since I was in high school.

I had first heard him on a live
collab with Cat Power. It's really
hard to find & might even be a
bootleg. I ripped it off a P2P many
many years ago & have only
been able to find one track from
it on youtube. (Now looking for it,
it seems to have been deleted)

The song was "Leopard and the
Lamb". She also did an amazing
improv guitar version of "Good Woman"
on there which is the best version
period, imo.

Shame. I only have it on my 160
gig classic ipod, but the headphone
jack is unfortunately shot at this point...
