AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Has Already Broken a Ticket Sales Record

infinitywargif6.gif

Avengers: Infinity War has already broken ticket seller Fandango's record for fastest-selling superhero movie in the first 24 hours of presales. And it only took six hours, following tickets going on sale at 6 a.m. PT Friday.

Infinity War tops the record previously held by Warner Bros.' Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, followed by fellow Marvel Studios film Black Panther. The ticket launch coincided with the second trailer for Avengers: Infinity War.

The film, directed by the Russo Bros. is Marvel's biggest film yet. It combines characters from all of its franchises, including Guardians of the Galaxy and its latest runaway hit Black Panther, which has become the second-biggest superhero movie domestically of all time, topping The Dark Knight and only trailing 2012's Avengers. Black Panther has grossed more than $1.1 billion worldwide, and is looking to claim its fifth weekend at No. 1 at the box office.

Avengers: Infinity War opens April 27.

BROTHERHOOD's Lashana Lynch Replaces DeWanda Wise in CAPTAIN MARVEL

kQ7m0Fm.jpg

Lashana Lynch is in final negotiations to replace DeWanda Wise in Captain Marvel, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The English actress would be joining the Marvel Studios feature after Wise had to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts with the second season of Netflix and Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It.

Filmmaking duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing the superhero studio's first female-fronted standalone, which stars Oscar-winner Brie Larson. Jude Law and Ben Mendelsohn will also star in the film, which is set in the 1990s and features Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury (with two eyes!).

In the comics, Captain Marvel is the alter ego of Air Force pilot Carol Danvers, who becomes a hero when her DNA is fused with an alien's after an accident.

Captain Marvel — out March 8, 2019 — marks the biggest role to date for Lynch, a Shondaland alum, who starred in the short-lived ABC period drama Still Star-Crossed. Lynch, who was awarded the Laurence Olivier Bursary while a student at AES, has also appeared in indie features Fast Girls and Brotherhood.

Steven Spielberg Plans to Shoot INDIANA JONES 5 in the U.K. on April 2019

Steven Spielberg is planning to start shooting the untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie for Disney in the U.K. in a little more than a year.

He made the disclosure Sunday night at the Rakuten TV Empire Awards, where he was on stage to receive a Legend of Our Lifetime award and spoke about his collaborators from the British film industry. The event was held at the Roundhouse in London.

“It’s always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK. The actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers — everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here,” Spielberg said while on stage.

Disney announced in 2016 that Spielberg would be returning to direct the next installment with Harrison Ford on board to reprise his role of the adventure-seeking archaeologist. No other cast members have been announced. The film has been set to bow on July 10, 2020.

David Koepp was hired in 2016 to write “Indiana Jones 5.” Koepp wrote the last Installment in the series, 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” and has previously worked with Spielberg on “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic Park: the Lost World.”

The four Indiana Jones films have grossed nearly $2 billion in worldwide box office. Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” will open on March 29.

I see no Paul Rudd;

has Ant-man not made the cut?

I've not watched the trailers, nor am I - I prefer to watch the fucking movie rather than get all the spoilers.

Ant-man is one of my faves, will be very dissapointed if he misses out and isn't an important component; understandable, however, as the story looks chocka-block with more 'important' characters.

Tessa Thompson to Reunite with Chris Hemsworth in MEN IN BLACK Spinoff

ljkWZMF.jpg

Valkyrie and Thor are reuniting. Tessa Thompson is joining her Thor: Ragnarok co-star Chris Hemsworth in Sony's Men in Black reboot.

Fate of the Furious filmmaker F. Gary Gray is set to direct the movie, written by Iron Man screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. The studio has the film dated for June 14, 2019.

Akin to how Jurassic World revived the Jurassic Park film series, Sony’s reboot is to feature new characters rather than Agents K and J, portrayed by original trilogy stars Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, respectively, and will build on the contemporary sci-fi world in which they operated.

Details are being kept hidden under a New York City ventilation tower, but sources say the new project is more of an ensemble piece than a two-hander and will be more global in scope. Hemsworth's deal isn't closed but is expected to.

Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are back as producers, while Steven Spielberg is returning as executive producer. David Beaubaire is overseeing for Sony.

In addition to her scene-stealing work as the Asgardian warrior Valkyrie in Ragnarok, Thompson appeared in Alex Garland’s recent sci-fi picture Annihilation and is currently shooting Creed II, returning for the boxing drama sequel along with Michael B. Jordan. This summer she'll stars in Annapurna's Sorry to Bother You and has a prominent role in HBO's upcoming second season of Westworld, which launches this spring.

BLACK PANTHER Becomes Highest Grossing Superhero Movie of All Time in U.S.

wVMyrhe.jpg

Ryan Coogler's Black Panther reached $630 million in earnings on Saturday and has become the top-grossing superhero film of all time in North America, not accounting for inflation.

The Disney and Marvel release achieved the milestone on Saturday after passing up fellow Marvel title The Avengers, which grossed $623.4 million in 2012. To boot, Black Panther is only one of seven films to ever earn $600 million or more domestically (it currently ranks No. 6 on the list).

Black Panther has shattered numerous milestones since opening in theaters on Feb. 16.

Globally, the film has earned north of $1.2 billion to date. By the end of Sunday, it will leap past Iron Man 3 ($1.214 billion) to become the third-biggest comic book adaptation behind The Avengers ($1.5 billion) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion).

The movie, which cost $200 million to make before marketing, was a bold move on the part of Disney and Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige.

Black Panther is unprecedented in being a big-budget studio tentpole featuring a virtually all-black cast. Chadwick Boseman stars as T'Challa/Black Panther alongside Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis.

READY PLAYER ONE's Zak Penn to Adapt Live-Action ROM: SPACEKNIGHT for Paramount

7YejEB9.jpg

Hot off adapting the Ernest Cline novel Ready Player One for director Steven Spielberg, Zak Penn has signed on to adapt ROM for Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures and Paramount Pictures. Allspark Pictures develops and produces live-action entertainment around Hasbro brands and related projects.

Ready Player One premieres tonight in Hollywood before Warner Bros releases the film Wednesday for the Easter holiday weekend.

Short for Read-only memory, ROM originated as a toy and then the comic ROM: Spaceknight. Hailing from a utopian society on the planet Galador, ROM is a cyborg who, after defeating the invading Dire Wraith on its planet, continues the battle on Earth and other planets.

Penn, who is known for adapting comic book and sci-fi stories for the big screen, is a true fan of Hasbro’s brands and has always loved the property. It long has been considered a potential tentpole for Hasbro.

Penn started his career selling his first script The Last Action Hero at 23. He has worked on numerous Marvel Comics movie transfers including X-Men 2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, Elektra, The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers, to go along with pics like PCU, Behind Enemy Lines and Suspect Zero.

Penn currently is working on a script for Warner Bros that is set in The Matrixuniverse hatched by the Wachowskis. Penn also has moved into TV, starting with the Syfy original series Alphas that starred David Strathairn.

CAPTAIN MARVEL Adds Lee Pace, Clark Gregg and Djimon Hounsou to the Cast

xbR1JTn.jpg

Captain Marvel is going to be a blast from the past in more ways than one. Fans already knew the '90s-set film would see Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) back in action, but Marvel Studios revealed Monday a number of familiar faces will be joining him.

Perhaps most noteworthy will be the return of Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson, who was the glue of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's early films, popping up for small roles in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and The Avengers — where the character died (only to be revived to headline ABC's Agents of SHIELD). He has not appeared in an MCU film since.

Marvel also revealed Monday that two Guardians of the Galaxy actors will be reprising their roles from the 2014 film. Lee Pace once again will play Ronan the Accuser, who in the first Guardians film was a fanatical member of the alien race the Kree. He was thwarted as he attempted to destroy the planet of Xandar using an Infinity Stone. Djimon Hounsou will once again play Korath the Pursuer, a mercenary who works with Ronan (and who hurt the feelings of Chris Pratt's Star-Lord because he'd never heard of him).

Brie Larson leads Captain Marvel as Carol Danvers, a pilot who becomes a powerful hero after an accident involving an alien. The film follows Danvers as she finds herself with her powers when a galactic war fought by two alien races (presumably, the Kree and the Skrull) come to Earth. Production has begun on the film, and to celebrate Marvel released a photo of Larson researching the role at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada recently. It seems the film will take inspiration from the Kree-Skrull War storyline Marvel published from 1970-71 in Avengers #89 – 97. It went on to become one of the publisher's most influential arcs, as it saw the two alien races' battle come to Earth, as the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Captain Marvel and more tried to keep them at bay.

"If there were these two major, warlike races running around in the cosmos, it made sense to me that their intergalactic ambitions would eventually clash, if they hadn't already," writer Roy Thomas told The Hollywood Reporter in 2016 of penning the classic comics.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing Captain Marvel, which also stars Ben Mendelsohn in a villain role, Jude Law, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte and McKenna Grace. Captain Marvel is set to open March 8, 2019.

Naomi Watts Joins Mel Gibson in Joe Carnahan's Action Pic BOSS LEVEL

jGbxkSr.jpg

Naomi Watts is in negotiations to join Frank Grillo and Mel Gibson in the Joe Carnahan action pic “Boss Level,” sources tell Variety.

Carnahan is directing from a script penned by the Borey Brothers. Will Sasso is also joining the cast. Grillo will play a retired special forces veteran trapped in a never-ending loop, resulting in his death every day. Details regarding who Watts will be playing are unknown.

The film will be financed by Emmett/Furla/Oasis, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian, and Randall Emmett and George Furla. Production companies are Emmett/Furla/Oasis, Di Bonaventura Pictures, Carnahan and Grillo’s War Party, and Scott Free.

Watts was most recently seen in Focus’ “The Book of Henry,” which also stars Jacob Tremblay, and Lionsgate’s “The Glass Castle” opposite Brie Larson. Her drama “Ophelia,” a reimagining of “Hamlet” told from the prospective of the titular character’s lover, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Watts played Gertrude in the film.

She recently wrapped production on the indie “The Luce” opposite Octavia Spencer, as well as the GEM Entertainment movie “The Wolf Hour,” which also stars Jennifer Ehle.

Fox Delays Releases Dates for THE NEW MUTANTS and X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX

SrgHgyN.jpg

X-Men: Dark Phoenix and X-verse spinoff The New Mutants have been delayed, Variety reports. Dark Phoenix has been pushed back from its November 2 release date to February 14, 2019. The New Mutants — which already shifted from its planned April 13, 2018 bow to February 22, 2019 — will now open August 2, 2019.

Freddy Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, starring Rami Malek as the iconic singer, takes Phoenix’s November 2 release date. Fox tapped Dexter Fletcher to take over the project after the studio fired longtime X-Men franchise director and producer Bryan Singer in December.

Dark Phoenix is the latest installment out of the long running franchise based on the Marvel Comics property. A direct follow up to 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, Phoenix is helmed by franchise producer and first-time director Simon Kinberg.

Fox also shuffled around two other future projects: the February 14, 2019 release date now occupied by Dark Phoenix ousted Joe Cornish's The Kid Who Would Be King. That film will be released March 1, 2019, pushing out police thriller The Force.

According to Comicbook.com, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is going to see some considerable changes before its release, as sources tell the site the Simon Kinberg-directed film is in need of multiple weeks worth of reshoots to change significant story points in the film.

After testing the film, 20th Century Fox has elected to bring the film back into production ahead of its release. They will have a significant roadblock in doing so, however, as its titular Dark Phoenix actress Sophie Turner will be heavily tied up with obligations to Game of Thrones' final season through September. The film has already been pushed back to Valentine's Day in 2019.
