UNBREAKABLE Actors Spencer Treat Clark and Charlayne Woodard Join GLASS

HLSmqH7.jpg

Spencer Treat Clark and Charlayne Woodard, who appeared in M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable, are reprising their roles from the 2000 hit, joining the filmmaker's newest thriller, Glass.

Glass is the sequel to both Unbreakable, which starred Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, and Split, Shyamalan's surprise hit from earlier this year that starred James McAvoy. The project is being described as a comic book thriller, although it is not based on any preexisting material.

Willis is returning to the role of security guard David Dunn, who is imbued with superpowers, while McAvoy is back as Kevin Wendell Crumb, a man with multiple personalities, including the creature known as The Beast.

Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb's superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Elijah Price, aka Mr. Glass (Jackson), emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

Clark is back as Willis' son, while Woodard is returning to play Jackson's mother.

Anya Taylor-Joy, who starred in Split, is back as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast. Sarah Paulson is also on the call sheet in a new undisclosed role.

Shyamalan, who wrote the script and is directing Glass, is producing with Jason Blum. Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock are also producing, while Steven Schneider will executive produce.

Clark, who was 13 when Unbreakable was released, was recently seen playing villain Werner von Strucker on ABC's Agents of SHIELD and had a run on TNT's Animal Kingdom. Woodard has appeared on recent episodes of The Leftovers, The Blacklist and People of Earth.

Tom Hanks to Star in Remake of Swedish Hit Comedy A MAN CALLED OVE

Tom Hanks is tackling an adaptation of the international best-selling novel A Man Called Ove.

Hanks is attached to star in the project and will produce with his Playtone banner partner Gary Goetzman. Rita Wilson, Hanks' wife and frequent producing partner, is also producing along with Fredrik Wikstrom Nicastro, it was announced Thursday.

The 2012 book by Fredrik Backman centers on a cantankerous widower who seems to revel in his bitterness and loneliness even as his frequent attempts at suicide seem to be thwarted by bad timing and bad luck. His life, however, takes a turn toward the unexpected when a mixed-race couple with two young daughters move into the neighborhood, leading to a heartwarming and life-affirming friendship.

The book hit No. 1 on The New York Times best-seller list and remained on the list for a consecutive 77 weeks. It has been translated into 43 languages.

The original local-language film adaptation, directed by Hannes Holm, was nominated for two Academy Awards earlier this year and was the highest-grossing foreign-language film in the U.S. in 2016. In addition, the pic was awarded the best comedy prize at the European Film Awards in 2016.

Andy Muschietti's IT Becomes Highest-Grossing Horror Movie of All Time

pC7PXgG.jpg

It, the blockbuster adaptation of Stephen King’s novel about a child-eating clown, has pushed past The Exorcist to become the highest-grossing horror film on a domestic basis.

The crown comes with some caveats. The Exorcist is still the top-grossing horror film on an international basis, having netted $441.3 million globally to It’s $404.3 million. The horror classic also made its money in 1973, so this record doesn’t take inflation into account.

It’s still a stunning result for the King adaptation, and a reason to celebrate at Warner Bros. and New Line, the studios responsible for bringing Pennywise to the big screen. It has earned $236.3 million stateside. In contrast, The Exorcist has grossed $232.9 million domestically. In addition to terrorizing ’70s theatergoers, The Exorcist got two director’s cut re-releases.

The film cost an economical $35 million to produce and pushed past “The Exorcist” after just two weeks of release. Given its monster grosses, it’s no surprise that the studio is moving forward on a follow-up to It.

It should shatter more records as it continues its torrid pace at the box office. The film is now the ninth highest-grossing R-rated release in history and the highest-grossing September release.

Well this has gone full-Florida...

Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs trailer is just lovely – but is there a problem with the movie’s choice of actors?

The Japan-set movie has already drawn criticism for 'whitewashing'

Anderson did cast a number of Japanese actors and musicians in Isle of Dogs, including Ken Watanabe, Yoko Ono, Yôjirô Noda, Mari Natsuki.

Isle of Dogs is released in UK cinemas on 30th March 2018.

Oh wait. I don't. Because dogs. Animated dogs. In a film I probably won't watch.

New Line and Warner Bros. Announce Sept. 6, 2019 Release Date for IT Sequel

Pennywise the Dancing Clown is getting ready to terrorize audiences all over again.

New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. on Monday announced that a sequel to the horror blockbuster It will hit theaters, including Imax locations, on Sept. 6, 2019.

Since its debut earlier this month, the film adaptation of Stephen King's book has shattered numerous records, including becoming the top-grossing horror film of all time, not adjusting for inflation. The Exorcist, released in 1973, made $233 million in North America and $441.3 million worldwide, but the domestic portion swells to $917.5 million when adjusting for inflation.

It has earned $266.1 million domestically and $478.1 million globally to date. The R-rated pic has roused the box office back to life after a brutal August and tough summer, as well as fueling record September revenue in North America.

Gary Dauberman, one of the screenwriters on It, has quietly closed a deal to pen the screenplay for the follow-up, while director Andy Muschietti is waiting in the wings to return as well. Producers Barbara Muschietti, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are also expected to return for the sequel.

King's opus It tells of a group of friends who band together to defeat their small town's demon, first as kids and then as adults. While his book toggles between the young and older characters, New Line structured its adaptation so that the first film focuses on the kids and is set in the past. While the sequel will take place in the present, it will be punctuated with flashbacks, allowing the same cadre of kids to be seen again.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Becomes Highest Grossing Superhero Movie of 2017 (So Far)

f5nELdj.png

Just two weeks ago, Spider-Man: Homecoming crossed the milestone figure of $800 million worldwide, and now it has emerged as the highest-grossing superhero movie of the year, according to Exhibitor Relations. The movie has nudged its way up the list of superhero movies’ performance at the box office through a solid showing in China.

Wonder Woman may have been the break-through hit of the year that grossed more than anyone expected, but these latest stats prove that Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming is the biggest superhero movie of the year — so far.

Homecoming has beaten out Logan and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, though both Thor: Ragnarok and Justice League are yet to be released. The latter is tracking for a big $150 million opening weekend, so there’s a chance it may over take Tom Holland’s first solo movie as the wall-crawler.

Spider-Man: Homecoming has dominated The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s $709 million, The Amazing Spider-Man’s $759.9 million, and Spider-Man 2’s $783.3 million. The movie is now the eighth highest-grossing superhero movie ever, taking over Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which finished at $868 million worldwide. This total leaves Homecoming $20 million behind the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie ever, Spider-Man 3.
