bIRgcY1.jpg

After successfully relaunching the Spider-Man franchise with Spider-Man: Homecoming, Sony and Marvel are staying in business with director Jon Watts.

Watts is in talks to return for the sequel to the hit Spidey film, starring Tom Holland. The sequel, currently untitled, is already slated for release on July 5, 2019.

Watts was best known for directing the $5 million indie Cop Car starring Kevin Bacon, but he successfully made the leap to big-budget tenpoles with Homecoming, getting the gig to co-write and direct the project after pitching a coming-of-age teen story focused on the high school life of Peter Parker. The film was deemed a box office hit after it open to $117 million domestically. It has earned $468.3 million worldwide over two weeks.

Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker in the sequel. In the first film, Parker was a junior in high school who was trying to adjust to regular Brooklyn life after his adventures with the Avengers. The next film's story will pick up after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, which will hit theaters on May 4, 2018, and will also feature Holland as Peter Parker.

MEGA MAN Movie in the Works with Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman to Write, Direct

BJ7U4Wv.png

Video game Mega Man is heading to the big screen with Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the filmmakers behind the documentary Catfish, in final negotiations to write and direct.

Chernin Entertainment is producing the project with Heroes actor Masi Oka. Twentieth Century Fox worked for over two years to acquire the rights and finally closed a deal earlier this year.

The video game, first released in 1987 by Capcom, centers on a robotic lab assistant created by a scientist named Dr. Light. Light is betrayed by a colleague, the disgruntled Dr. Wily, who reprograms a line of robots in order to take over the world. The lab assistant, nicknamed Rock, then upgrades himself into combat mode in order to save mankind.

Mega Man’s popularity led to comics and manga adaptations on both sides of the Pacific, cartoons and even appearances in other video games. Over 50 games on multiple systems have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.

Joost and Schulman made a splash with their debut, Catfish, the 2010 controversial documentary about online relationships. The filmmaker team catapulted into narratives when they were hired to direct found-footage horror movie Paranormal Activity 3,and followed that up with Paranormal Activity 4.

The duo last directed Nerve, the 2016 thriller starring Emma Roberts and James Franco that also dealt with the online world.

Warner Bros. Planning INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS Remake

ZEw3ioM.png

The body snatchers are back, with Warner Bros. developing a remake of the sci-fi classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Horror screenwriter David Leslie Johnson will pen the script for the feature, which will be produced by John Davis, who is known for I, Robot and Chronicle.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers has had many Hollywood iterations. The 1954 novel was first adapted for the screen in 1956 and focuses on a small town as it is invaded by aliens that mature to look like exact copies of the people in the town, but who are devoid of all emotion. A 1978 version starred Donald Sutherland and Jeff Goldblum and was set in San Francisco.

Johnson has a long working relationship with Warners, having penned the sequel to New Line's successful horror feature The Conjuring. He also wrote the upcoming Conjuring 3 and is working on New Line/Warner Bros.' Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

Fresh Off the Boat star Randall Park is set to play S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.

Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will return to play the title characters, and they’ll be joined by Black Mirror actress Hannah John-Kamen, whose role remains a mystery. Michael Douglas and Michael Peña are also expected to return as Hank Pym and Luis, the latter of whom might just get a new girlfriend this time around.

Peyton Reed is directing the sequel to the 2015 comic book movie, which ended with Hank Pym showing his daughter Hope van Dyne her new Wasp costume as Scott Lang embraces the responsibility of playing Ant-Man.

Ant-Man grossed more than $500 million worldwide, and Disney is slated to release the sequel on July 6, 2018.

Park, who stars on ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat and HBO’s Veep, previously shared the screen with Rudd in the 2014 comedy They Came Together. This summer, he appeared in both Snatched and The House, and he’ll soon be seen alongside his The Interview co-star James Franco in The Disaster Artist.

Noah Hawley Developing Movie About FANTASTIC FOUR Villain Doctor Doom for Fox

A portion of the Fantastic Four may live again on the big screen.

Legion creator Noah Hawley teased at Thursday's San Diego Comic-Con panel for the show that he is developing a movie for Fox that fans may be interested in.

"Two words," he said. "Doctor Doom."

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter he is developing the film with an eye to direct.

The character is the chief antagonist of Marvel's Fantastic Four, the superteam Fox has movie rights to.

The Fantastic Four has had a somewhat challenged big-screen history. Tim Story directed the 2005 film Fantastic Four and the 2007 sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. While they were commercially successful, they were not quite embraced by fans. A 2015 reboot directed by Josh Trank was a critical and commercial bomb and led to Trank being fired from a Star Wars spinoff.

Fox has been looking to reboot and re-imagine the franchise after the lackluster performance of the 2015 film. Another Fantastic Four movie would just not do, so the studio is looking at various angles. There are rumors that Seth Grahame-Smith is working on a Fantastic Four spin-off featuring Franklin Richards, the son of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Girl.

Julian McMahon played Doctor Doom in the first two films, while Toby Kebbell portrayed the character in the 2015 version.

The announcement came at the tail end of the first-ever Comic-Con panel for FX's X-Men drama Legion, which will return for its second season next year. Hawley also recently wrapped the third season of FX anthology Fargo, with the future of that franchise hinging on the prolific showrunner coming up with an idea for another cycle.

Yes there is but production has been delayed. Channing Tatum is attached to play the lead. Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) was originally the director. He left. Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) came on board. He left to direct Justice League Dark (which he eventually left also).

Update: August 24, 2016

Doug Liman Exits GAMBIT to Direct JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK

ATla5Ry.png

Doug Liman is no longer directing Gambit. The Mr. and Mrs. Smith director has moved off Twentieth Century Fox’s X-Men spin-off, which still has Channing Tatum attached to star.

Liman is now attached to direct Justice League Dark, breathing new life into Warner Bros.' supernatural adventure project that will bring together heroes such as John Constantine, Deadman, Shade the Changing Man, Zatanna and Swamp Thing.

Insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter Fox is still intent on starting production in January and has Josh Zetumer on writing duties. A source describes the split as a “mutual parting of ways.”

A search is already underway for a new director to helm the project that tells of a New Orleans-based mutant with the power to manipulate kinetic energy and whose weapons include a staff and a deck of playing cards.

Liman signed onto the project in October 2015 after the departure of Rupert Wyatt. Gambit has seen its start date pushed several times — it was to have begun shooting in the fall of 2015, then early 2016. Script rewrites have been a recurring issue and earlier this year they pushed the start again to early 2017.

That delay left Liman to tackle another project, the small-scale psychological thriller The Wall set up at Amazon Studios, which he recently wrapped.

First Full Trailer for David Ayer's BRIGHT Starring Will Smith

LbCCHAA.png

Bright, penned by Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis, follows two cops: a human (Will Smith) and an Orc (Joel Edgerton), who must outrun law enforcement, criminals and an assorted coterie of supernatural beings in order to protect a magical wand. It's a world where Orcs and other supernatural creatures are real — and don't always get along.

"It was really great to be an African-American police officer who found someone to be racist against," Smith joked. The actor said the film's social issues-inspired story is "a beautiful snapshot of our world, without hammering it too much."

"This ain't no bullshit PG-13 studio movie. I was able to do my shit. I was able to do my thing," director David Ayer said, potentially throwing shade on his experience making Suicide Squad or his recent backing away from Universal's remake of Scarface. "Netflix is going to pull a lot of talent because they are so supportive," said the helmer.
