We always hear MMA fighters saying that MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world. But it's far from the truth.. I believe Esport is the fastest growing sport in the world.

There's more people today playing one single game than there is people in France.

2.4 billion hours of esports video watched last year, as millions around the world watched live streams. That figure is expected to reach 6.6 billion by 2018, according to market research firm IHS Technology

Many UFC/MMA fighters will never make $600k during their careers.

Can esports also grow to the level of individual sports in terms of revenues and surpass the billion dollar mark on its way? The report analyzes average revenue per fan or enthusiast to answer this question. On a global scale, there are 2.2 billion sports fans who each generate an average of $56 per year. The average revenue for individual sports is anywhere from $20 upwards. Esports enthusiasts on the other hand, currently generate an average of $2.2 per person per year, without game revenues taken into account. Our current esports revenue projections use a conservative $3.2 average revenue per enthusiast figure for 2017. With growth mainly driven by a larger audience, global esports revenues will still rise to $451 million in two years from now. This renders esports comparable to a top 10 sport or globally renowned leagues like the NFL or Champions League. If the average revenue per enthusiast grows faster and jumps to $7, esports will be a billion dollar business by 2017 with even more growth potential going forward. Drawing from the comparison with traditional sports, the report highlights which factors will determine the pace of growth of the esports Economy.

So not everyone will make $1m/year but you can make as much money as a MMA fighter without having to get your ass kick everyday and all the injuries that comes with it. You get more money from sponsors.

Do you think the younger generation will make Esport the most popular sport in the world?

LOL! At calling Esport a "sport", this is fuckin stupid

It's more of a sport than MMA will ever be.

Yeah the games they play seem really boring, not sure how people get into that.

Playing video games is as much of a sport as board games. Neither fit into the actual definition of sport.

sport
noun
1. an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

Have the Simpsons made an episode about Esport

Apparently we can call anything a sport these days. I'm a champion at 2 gram curls, like real world class.

If anything it shows MMA fighters aren't held at gunpoint to stay fighting, and are open to other niche options.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, crying about fighter pay never made any sense to me. None of these fighters are financially or legally obligated to the profession. These are grown ass adults who were cognizant enough to sign and agree to their paycheck. You're paid what you're worth.

Of course MMA has no skill in your eyes you don't even know what your watching. Your probably the guy in the corner of the bar telling everyone how you could have been a champ in MMA.

E-sports will be far bigger than MMA. People who are still in denial better come to acceptance.

MMA is a niche and violent sport that only appeals to a certain group of people. Some here want to debate if e-sports are actually sport, the same can be said about MMA.

With all that being said though..

Just bleed.

This thread should be whisked away to the wasteland

Even if I accept your awful definition of sport (which I don 't) you're still wrong. Youtube would be a bigger "sport"

5/10 (for using pictures and links)
