When that happened live I knew right away that she was hurt, sucks.
I wish her a speedy recovery.
That was just awful. Nakamoto was dominating Murphy the entire fight up to that point... it really wasn't even close. A couple more kicks to Murphys lead leg and she would have been retired from strikes.
Watching a great athlete fall because of some bullshit injury is upsetting. Hope she makes a comeback.
This is so sad. She was winning with ease and this bullshit happens, if that's her ACL gone then that's a year out - she's 37... I was looking forward to her beating Cyborg and then moving onto the UFC.
if it's the mcl she should be back next year. hopefully she's back and doesn't miss a beat. she's not an old 37, so we can just hope for the best for the best striker in wmma.
All I heard was that Nakamoto thought about taking on Cydorg in Lionfights.
Looks like Cote vs Anderson when he blew his knee out.
Unsure if it's the same knee but she was out for 2011 with a knee injury as well.
Tough night for Invicta. Lost the strawweight title fight, Nakamoto injury, no real highlights out of the fights (even JoJo's), giving everyone their money back again, some jackass nutritionist accusing Julia Budd of being on steroids... real tough night.
Did you tune out after the second? Murphy rallied and had a tremendous 3rd round.
It's ridiculously unfortunate.
Rough. Feel sorry for Nakamoto.
I hope she recoveres quickly.
I disagree with this, it felt like momentum was shifting in the 3rd round even before Nakamoto got injured.
Murphey was def coming on strong in the third and I think the fight was shifting in her favor. Now would she have done that for two more rounds and won the fight? Who knows but it did look like she was taking over the fight before the injury.
Gutted for her... It sucks balls potentially seeing one of WMMA's biggest prospects get sidelined when she only has a few good years left in her.
I hope it's not bad, but watching her knee buckle the way it did right before the fight ended looked like the injury could be serious.
Totally sucked. That round was shaping up to be a back and forth war when Murphy was surging back.
Here's to a speedy recovery. With some luck, we might see Nakamoto again near the end of 2014.
Not a chance. with this being her 2nd ACL, you won't see her risk her health again. Watch this interview with Ariel Helwani - uncharacteristically for an MMA fighter, she outwardly expresses her deep fear of lasting injury - and would you know, she eerily predicts an ACL injury. She goes into detail saying that in Muy THai you can get injured from blows, but MMA scares her because of the greater potential damage from slams, twists, necks, spinal cords, etc. She is, or was , a scared fighter who moved to MMA because of the greater paydays.
eerie how similar they went down
Exactly what I thought when I saw her fall. Also, lulz on your pic link.... it's an f'n novel.
She dominated the first two rounds. There was a momentum change in the third round. Props for coming out for the 4th round when she was clearly injured . You could see her tell her corner she was injured and cane back out. Could have gone either way if the fight continued.
