IGN streamed the awards ceremony here:

Here was IGN's full 6-hour broadcast of the summit, not the ceremony:

AIAS said:
LOS ANGELES – January 12, 2017 – The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) is pleased to announce the nominees for its 20th D.I.C.E. Awards celebration, co-hosted by Greg Miller, co-founder of internet video and podcast Kinda Funny, and Jessica Chobot of Nerdist News. Academy members will begin voting for the video game industry’s premier peer-based awards show Friday, Jan. 13 at 5 PM PST.
The winners will be revealed at the Awards ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 23, at The Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas after the 2017 D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit (#DICE2017). The awards ceremony will stream live in its entirety beginning at 7:30pm PT/10:30pm ET via live.interactive.org.
  • 13 = Maximum Possible Nominations, 2017
    • possibly 14 for a VR game-- I'm unclear
    • technically, you can add +4 to this possible maximum as games aren't limited to a single nomination within the "Outstanding Achievement in Character" category, but no single game has ever achieved more than two nominations in this category: even when it was split between male/female.
20th D.I.C.E. Awards Finalists
Fifty-six games received a D.I.C.E. nomination, representing a range of different platforms from teams of developers both large and small. The blockbuster game Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End leads the pack with ten nominations and indie darling Inside received 9 nominations. Several games received multiple nods, including: Battlefield 1 with eight nominations; The Last Guardian with seven nominations; Firewatch and Overwatch with six nominations; and Titanfall 2 with four nominations.

Well, this year, tallying the wins by game, developer, and publisher reveals perhaps one truth: why Sony is winning the console war. Despite the fact that the Xbox One has supplied a more stable gaming network, delivered better premium bonuses & services with membership, built far superior HTPC functionality into their console, and dropped the price to beat Sony's refreshed "Pro" console with their own Xbox One S release...they continue to lose the console war.

Why? Games. Games, games, games. Sony humiliated both Nintendo and Microsoft this year in the Publisher showing. Only Electronic Arts kept pace.

17TH ANNUAL
GAME DEVELOPER CHOICE AWARDS

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...opers-choice-award-nominations-300385591.html
The collective opinion of those people who actually make the games, and know what it takes. Unlike with other ceremonies, where I imagine the bling of spectacle often impresses over engineering, I doubt cheap tricks of coding ever play very well at this event...unless you thought of them first.

AMBASSADOR AWARD

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

the-game-awards1.jpg

http://thegameawards.com/

The last of the de facto "Triple Crown" of industry awards for gaming. This one was founded by Gametrailer's Geoff Keighley. It was reforged from the dissolution of the "Spike Videogame Awards" following the epic embarrassment of the 2013 ceremony in which host Joel McHale appeared to repeatedly condescend to gamers, and which was universally panned as an obviously corrupt pageant designed to create as many awards as possible with no integrity for which games actually deserved one.

Its image is still recovering from that debacle, and its prestige shouldn't be regarded on the same level as ANY of the other ceremonies & awards listed in this thread. All are engines for commercialism, essentially, but this one crossed the line, and it isn't even yet clear if it is sincere in attempting to earn its way back. Evidence is that it's repeating an infamous mistake from 2013: awarding the Action GOTY award to DOOM when that game already lost the greater and less restrictive overall GOTY to Overwatch. It gives the Action/Adventure award to Dishonored 2 over Uncharted despite that the former wasn't nominated for the overall GOTY award, and the latter was.

This is just such an obvious ploy to create a sticker that says "GOTY" for twice as many titles to put on the box. The only reason I include this ceremony is because of its visibility, and to take the opportunity to impugn it as I have in these paragraphs for its transparent marketing schemes.

Day 4
Day 5
220px-Jeff_Gerstmann%2C_PAX_East_2015.jpg

Giant Bomb remains the single most respected reviewer publication in the industry thanks to its legendary chief, Jeff Gerstmann, who abdicated the single most profitable position in his industry as the head of Gamespot; fortunately, his vote accounts for at least 1 of the 25 panel members for The Game Awards two posts above. He earned his name when he refused to withhold negative criticism of games produced by sponsors of the magazine. He was fired over it, and the gaming community came out the big winner because we got one the most trustworthy and gamer-driven gaming review publications that has ever existed.

Perhaps it's understandable, then, that Gerstmann famously resists delivering his content in ways that can be easily poached and packaged by third parties to sling games dishonestly by invoking things his team writes out of context.

For PC gamers Total Biscuit is probably one of the three most popular and respected independent streamers/reviewers alive right now. The other two would be Boogie and Angry Joe (these guys also do console reviews). Here were their lists.

Must admit I'm a bit surprised that Inside pulled the GOTY nomination over Dark Souls III, Titanfall 2, and X-COM 2. Appreciate that, but it also feels like the Academy trying to make up for a previous year's fuck-up in the same way the Hollywood motion picture Academy rolled out clips of a previous year's film at the ceremony for the first time in history the year following The Dark Knight's now infamous Best Picture snub. Kind of feels like a scrap thrown to less wealthy dev studios.

Nope, sorry. You can't get that Rocket League omission back, guys. Otherwise, great job this year.

Wonder how they will nominate Switch games since they are both handheld and console?

Its a robbery if Doom doesnt win action game of the year.

I think UC4 is gonna wipe everything. Technical awards especially.

Owlboy gets nominated for outstanding achievement in game design but not art? Fucking weirdos making the calls for this.

Outside of it being a massive success, why is Pokemon Go nominated for game of the year?

Yeah, it kind of introduced AR to people, but the game itself was barely even mediocre.

wonder who will win the sports game and the fighting game category. sports because I can see it going fifa or madden and fighting because the biggest name if you will is SFV. That game has gotten a bit of hate from the community so who knows.

Am I wrong to assume Overwatch is going to run away with it?

*Edit* Forgive me, this was the live stream, and the 6PM EST was for the Summit, not the ceremony. We are still waiting on the ceremony to begin at 7:30 PST. Apparently I'm illiterate.

Sorry about that everyone, my attention was divided, and I had the Summit streaming not realizing that it wasn't live. At first I had the time right, then confused myself with sloppy Googling, and thought I had missed it altogether. In fact, I was right, and it was scheduled for a Pacific evening, not an East Coast evening. My apologies. Here we go:
