You're not even allowed to own WWI era machine guns let alone modern equipment.

Only if they are weapons manufactured before 1986 and are registered with the federal government. The federal government also has to notify your local and state law enforcement of the purchase including all your personal details.

You can only purchase them from class 3 FFL dealers and the purchasing process can take over a year.

They also cost exponentially more than semi-auto variants. AR-15 semi cost can be purchased for less than $1000 while a fully auto variant can cost as much as $20,000 or more. Operational belt fed machine guns can cost hundreds of thousands.

You also can't cross state lines with the weapon without applying for permission first.
