I remember in one case the suspect was reluctant enough that the informant had to offer him $250,000. Is such a person really a threat on their own? I doubt it.

I'm not saying he shouldn't go to jail or even that the FBI is wrong in this particular case, just that similar cases make me skeptical as to the value of these sorts of stings. In this case he expressed willingness to engage in such an attack before hand so there is reason to go after him but in the end he wasn't competent enough to pull something like this off and had to rely on the FBI agent to do most of the work so I'm skeptical as to how much of a threat this guy really was.

My concern is that the resources going into grooming someone to be a terrorist might result in them letting an actual terrorist slip through the cracks.

Had it not have been a set up the city I was born in would have had another massive tragedy. He dialed the number on the phone to set off the bomb.
