Prince was a bad motherfucker but this womans talent is simply otherworldly. Her biography is a testimony to the inferiority of mere humans. She's pretty much a mary sue character cooked up by Marvel comics.

Seriously, to sing while playing lines as complex as she does is mind blowing.

What most impresses me are the musical artists who find that sweet spot between flawless, mechanical execution and songwriting that moves and touches the gut, heart and mind of the listener.

In that sense, to compare singing bass players, I'd much rather listen to Sting (with the Police) or classic Geddy Lee than this chick.

Though she could probably play circles around them on the instrument and ace music theory exams that they would struggle to even pass.

Yep, all that girl is doing is musical masturbation. She gets no radio play, and no commercial viability. Must serious musicians can mimic what she is doing.

But I doubt she can do this

Does she produce/write her own stuff?

Cos, with someone like Prince for instance, you factor in that he wrote, produced, arranged and, oftentimes played most if not all the instruments himself, as well as being a monster showman.

Or you look at guys like Brian Wilson, who seemingly conjure these melodies and arrangements and shit out of nowhere, then manage to get them out.

Not trying to rag on the lass here, just wondering.

Of course she can't.... why would a bassist play anything off of AJFA? <OKC16>

I sure hope they decide to remix and remaster Justice. To me that was and remains the last truly great Metallica record. But its lack of low end is painful.

Oh, yeah! And it's decent. Whenever I get a hankering for some Justice that is my go to.

But an official, from the bottom up new remix and master would sound even better.

I've always found the rivalry between rock and jazz guys to be weird. Both accuse the other of being soul less with rock guys tending to scoff at anything technical and jazz guys doing the same at anything loud and in your face. They're both sniffing their own farts
I'm not someone who tries to quantify emotion in music, I find what people like Esperanza Spalding and Tosin Abasi are doing to have as much emotional content as Gilmore or Buckley, its just different. Its just an unbelievably flawed premise to state that something has no emotional content (outside of ones own experience, obviously) based on silly, arbitrary lines like tone or music theory.

She doesn't do any of the technical work like Price occasionally did but she writes her own stuff.

I just came across this the other day after the latest RARHOF inductions. I think this Yes song fits that bill. And has a killer bassline. (Played by guest bassist, Geddy Lee!)

I don't think what you said about rock guys scoffing at technical music is true. Since prog, jazz fusion ,hard rock and metal, rock musicians have prided themselves on their chops. There is alot of snobbery that goes on within rock music about how technical a musician you are. I can see both ends of it. I do hear some rock guys say jazz is boring because of the lack of memorable songs and because its mostly about improvisation. I hear jazz guys say that rock is formulaic and simple musically.

btw which buckley are you talking about? Tim or Jeff lol?

It is definitely jazz, I guess people would call it 'jazz-fusion' but it's still jazz.

I love her, I had her album on repeat for quite some time. Missed her live performance last summer and I hope to catch her live soon.
