how the fuck the fighters want to blame the ufc. it's quite obvious that fighting will give you brain damage. also the ufc never forced anyone to fight, so to put the blame in the ufc for their brain damage is asinine at best

It's obvious football will cause brain damage but the NFL got sued billions.

The UFC is a little more insulated than the NFL though because team training centers are affiliated with the NFL while MMA training camps aren't affiliated with the UFC.

I'll agree with that... the training is way more damaging than actual fights usually.

I dont think many fighters spar on a daily basis but I get your point. Actually I doubt any do. That would be insane. Maybe in the old days. I do remember Eddie Alvarez saying he sparred over 150 rounds in preparation for the RDA fight though which is fking crazy. But that isnt normal. I think once a week is the regular.

I thought CTE could only be diagnosed after they are dead and able to take the brain out

I almost did the same thing. I think I could have been a contender. But when I got hit with a head kick in training some 13 years ago. It changed my entire outlook. It freaked me out. I felt weird for like 30 minutes after that then later ended up at the doctors, I thought I'd never be the same.

That's how they originally found the disease. Now that they know what it looks like they can find it on brain scans no problem.

    This.

We haven’t seen the worst of what’s to come yet cause MMA is still relatively new compared the NFL. Unfortunately, I think there’s going to be a large number of former fighters in the near future and beyond that will suffer from the damage they took earlier on. Guys like Wandy, Chuck, Nogs, JDS, Mir, Bigfoot, Grey Maynard just to name a few I’d be pleasantly shocked if they don’t already experience some effects and or develop further problems.

How do you get concussion from someone (Henrdricks) just laying on you for 15 minutes?

Concussions aren’t as hard to get as many make them seem. Just banging your head on the car door or bumping heads can do it. In the most layman of terms a concussion is any blow to the head that causes any symptoms.

Nice try OP. CTE can't be diagnosed in the living.

No it can’t, but it can be strongly implicated in a clinical setting. Look at Goodridge. No his brain hasn’t been examined for tau proteins, but due to his clinical history and symptoms it’s 99.9% likely he has it.

This, the guy came into the ufc as a mediocre journeyman, and ended up a hair from title contention. And his resume includes some of the most exciting fights in ufc history.

He's already done more than enough and had a better career than 99 percent of fighters. That's good enough, stop now before you turn your brain into mush

That's probably true. Hendricks landed like 2 good strikes in that fight

I wonder if CTE is just the result of fighters that make fighting being the most absolute most important thing in their life and they have very little identity outside of training and fighting all the time...When the reality of the daily grind and work ethic that has occurred for so many years just abruptly ends, it must be VERY hard to transition into normal life.

Look at a lot of the athletes that encounter this CTE diagnosis...MOST are at the end of their careers and are of advanced age....I know plenty of fighters that fought MANY fights and transitioned into normal life very well without issue....Igor Vov comes to mind.

I am no doctor and this is JUST MY OPINION is just a theory....It seems to always happen to a lot of high profile fighters. Very tough and big EGO fighters....Ali, Wandy, Diego Sanchez.

It is also baffling that some guys can take crazy punishment and remain clear headed as they age....Luck of the draw? Maybe!
