Massive Protests in Iran: Anger in the streets of Tehran amid economic turmoil

The Iranians knew better thats why Khatami tried to cooperate in Afghanistan hoping too cool shit down with America.

After America's rebuffed them and then put them in the "axis of evil" and after an unilateral invasion that reeked of XIX imperialism, moderates got murdered and Ahmadinejad got elected and shit went down from there.

Now history repeats itself, Rouhani credibility is destroyed, moderates silenced and the rise of a new wave of radicalism is more than obvious, im quite certain that this movement is going to be crushed.

As i said, with Trump rewarding North Korea and punishing Iran the message is clear "America only respects military power" so Iran is quite likely to double down on his geopolitical ambitions.

I'm curious to how you propose that the US can help this moderate movement in Iran attain political power while simultaneously ensuring that Iranian interests (nuclear weapons, the exportation of terror, etc.) remain checked?

What are the chances the youngsters are educated and feel they would have a better future if leaders were not religious?

- Nuclear weapons were already checked with the deal.

- Focus sanctions on individuals and groups that are involved in said activities.

- Carrot and stick.

Yup.

When they put Ahmadinejad in charge give them the stick.

Then they replace him with Rouhani you give them the carrot

Would it change your calculus if reasonable evidence were presented that the Iranians were lying about the terms of the deal? If they were able to quickly go back to production of enriched uranium at levels about what was agreed upon, would that suggest that they were not indeed checked?

That’s impossible because Iran said so

They can go back to production quickly, it will take however considerable time to reach the stockpiles they already had.

As opposed to the pinky promise that was the North Korean deal, the Iranian deal did had plenty of safeguards against violations.

The deal limits the amount of centrifuges that they are able to have. The centrifuges are required for the production of enriched uranium.

Additionally, it will be Iran who will have breached the deal, giving much more leverage to the US with the international community should any cooperation be required.

Instead, we've walked away from the deal, with nothing in place to substitute it. A victory for Iranian hardliners, who can say accurately that the US can't be trusted, so why bother?

What NK deal? There's not really a deal yet. There's some stuff that was promised as "showings of good faith," but there's not actually a lead yet. The result of that summit was, effectively, a promise that there would be another summit.

Iran women dance in support of arrested Instagram teen
9 July 2018

Women in Iran have posted videos of themselves dancing online, in support of a teenager who was arrested.

Maedeh Hojabri had gathered thousands of followers on Instagram with videos of herself dancing to Iranian and Western pop music.

On Friday, state TV broadcast Ms Hojabri's apparent confession.

Social media users shared videos and messages supporting the young dancer, using hashtags such as one that translates as #dancing_isn't_a_crime.

The Iranian government has strict rules governing women's clothing and dancing with members of the opposite sex in public is banned, except in front of immediate family members.

Ms Hojabri's videos showed her dancing at home without the mandatory headscarf, or hijab.

Several other dancers have reportedly also been arrested in recent weeks.

Blogger Hossein Ronaghi commented: "If you tell people anywhere in the world that 17 and 18-year-old girls are arrested for their dance, happiness and beauty on charges of spreading indecency, while child rapists and others are free, they will laugh! Because for them, it's unbelievable!"

One Twitter user wrote: "I'm dancing so that they [the authorities] see and know that they cannot take away our happiness and hope by arresting teenagers and (girls like) Maedeh."

This is not the first time dancers in Iran have been arrested for dancing.

Earlier this year, an official in the city of Mashhad was arrested after footage emerged showing a crowd of men and women dancing at a mall in the city, while six people were arrested for Zumba dancing in August.

In 2014, six young Iranians who posted a video of themselves dancing to Pharrell Williams' hit song Happy on the streets and rooftops of Tehran were given suspended sentences of up to one year in prison and 91 lashes.

They are limited to the amount of centrifugues they can have operational, the ones decommissioned i assume can be put back to enriching quite fast if the deal breaks down.

China will help them out. Things will turn around.

Well, that’s the thing. They’re not supposed to be able to be restored quickly, assuming the Iranians are living up to the deal. These centrifuges are supposed to be like rocket science, perfectly balanced and incredibly difficult to set up (which is why you need experienced nuclear scientists). One of the major selling points of the deal was that if we all entered into it, Iran shouldn’t be able to produce large amounts of uranium for at least a decade. So if Iran can return to quick production of large amounts of enriched uranium, then the question that follows is: Were we lied to by our own leadership on the merits of the deal, or did Iran act in bad faith and violate the deal under our noses?

Just couldn’t look at military sites
Nothing to see there

congrats on destabilizing another country guys! I'm still trying to understand how ruining peoples lives is considered a success for some of you.

No, the deal was supposed to delay the "time to bomb" from a few weeks, to over a year.

That relied on Iran giving up their stockpiles an decommissioning a large amount of centrifugues.

If they start enriching, they will still take a while until they reach enough uranium for a bomb.
