Carrie-Anne Moss to Reprise Jeri Hogarth Role in IRON FIST

Carrie-Anne-Moss-Iron-Fist-Dragonlord.jpg

Marvel’s Iron Fist, coming soon to Netflix, just got some extra legal expertise with the addition of Carrie-Anne Moss to the cast!

Moss will reprise her role as lawyer Jeri Hogarth, first seen in Marvel’s Jessica Jones before also appearing in the Season 2 finale of Marvel’s Daredevil, to provide Danny Rand (Finn Jones) with help as he returns to New York.

“Carrie-Anne has fast become a fan-favorite part of our street level saga, and we share our viewers’ excitement in bringing her into ‘Marvel’s Iron Fist,’” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “As Marvel fans know, Hogarth in the comics plays a critical role in the life of Danny Rand so it seems only fitting that Carrie-Anne join in.”

“Danny Rand lives in the highest stratosphere of New York’s business society and he’s going to need a ruthless lawyer to help him navigate this alien world,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner, Scott Buck. “I’m very happy to have the opportunity to bring Carrie-Ann Moss as Jeri Hogarth into ‘Marvel’s Iron Fist.’”

Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) has joined the Netflix original series Marvel’s Iron Fist as Colleen Wing.

First Teaser Image from IRON FIST Hints at the Plot

Following the announcement of Finn Jones playing the role of Iron Fist in the Marvel/Netflix series, the first image from the show has landed online. As expected, there isn’t a lot of detail – but there is something interesting to note.

The note is addressed to Jay Meachum, and asks ‘who is Danny Rand?’

In the comics Danny Rand’s father Wendell Rand started Rand-Meachum Inc. with Harold Meachum. While Danny was being raised in K’un Lun, Wendell was killed. Upon returning, Danny – now Iron Fist – discovers that Harold Meachum was implicit in his father's death and seeks revenge. Iron Fist doesn’t kill him but instead takes his share of the company which is now being run by Harold’s daughter Joy Meachum. So it looks like the show is going to follow the character’s origin fairly closely.

Marvel Announces Finn Jones to Play IRON FIST in Netflix Series

Finn-Jones-Iron-Fist-031716-Dragonlord.jpg

Marvel and Netflix are pleased to announce that Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) will star in Marvel’s Iron Fist, the newest series coming soon only to Netflix.

Jones will play Daniel Rand, who returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

“Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He’s a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who’s still trying to figure out what exactly that all means,” said Executive Producer and showrunner, Scott Buck. “Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny.”

“Finn wonderfully blends confidence with vulnerability, making him the perfect choice as he struggles to find his place in the world,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb. “Now that we’ve found our Danny Rand, we’ve completed our principal cast for the upcoming Defenders on Netflix and we are thrilled to continue to show audiences unexplored corners of the Marvel Universe.”

Finn will next be seen in the upcoming season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, where he reprises his role of Ser Loras Tyrell. He is also known for his work on the British series Hollyoaks and Hollyoaks Later.

JESSICA JONES Scribe Scott Reynolds to Write IRON FIST

Netflix-Iron-Fist-012816-Dragonlord.jpg

Well, it appears that we might now know at least one of the writer's that will be working on Marvel & Netflix's upcoming Iron Fist series. From the looks of things, the upcoming mystical martial arts series will be written by Scott Reynolds (Jessica Jones, Dexter, The Following) as he has updated his bio and header on Twitter.

While this is no form of official confirmation, it's worth noting that Reynolds was an executive producer on Jessica Jones and also previously collaborated with showrunner Scott Buck on Dexter. Seems a bit unlikely that he would add writing this one to his bio if there wasn't indeed fact to it. The series currently has no premiere date but Daniel Rand is currently rumored to debut in Luke Cage later this year.

Marvel and Netflix's IRON FIST Has Found Its Showrunner

Netflix-Iron-Fist-101115-Dragonlord.jpg

Press Release: The Netflix Original Series Marvel’s Iron Fist has found its showrunner and Executive Producer in Scott Buck (Dexter, Six Feet Under)! Buck previously served as Executive Producer and showrunner of Dexter for the series’ final four years. He has also written for Six Feet Under and Rome, among other series.

“Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.”

“I’ve always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that’s what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and Iron Fist to life with Marvel on Netflix,” said Buck.

Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

Marvel’s Iron Fist is the fourth series as part of an overall deal between Marvel Television and Netflix, which has already released the critically-acclaimed first seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil and Marvel’s Jessica Jones, with Marvel’s Luke Cage premiering in 2016. All four heroes will then unite in the mini-series event Marvel’s The Defenders.

Jeph Loeb Assures IRON FIST Netflix Series Is Still Happening

Netflix-Iron-Fist-112015-Dragonlord.jpg

Since Marvel Television announced its Netflix plan two years ago, it's been quiet, news-wise, for one of the four main series: Iron Fist. In an interview with CBR, Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb made it clear: Don't mistake no news for bad news, as plans are continuing unabated.

"There was a lot of speculation about what was going on with Iron Fist, because fans hadn't heard anything about it, but there's never been any change at all," Loeb told CBR. When asked if fans can expect news in the near future on a star or showrunner, Loeb responded, "The short answer is, yes, there'll be news."

This past July, an unconfirmed report surfaced that Marvel was facing creative hurdles with Iron Fist, with the difficulty stemming from how to balance the many mystical elements of the comic book character with the much more grounded world of Marvel's other Netflix shows.

Earlier this month, a widely circulated rumor stated that Iron Fist may be reconceptualized as a made-for-Netflix film, with a Punisher series taking its place -- a claim Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada rejected this week at a "Jessica Jones" premiere event.

According to Loeb, Marvel has deliberately held off on Iron Fist because he wanted to give Jessica Jones, which debuted on Netflix today, the spotlight; especially given that she's a character that was largely unknown to mass audiences.

"We knew exactly what we were doing at Marvel and at Netflix," Loeb said. "Let's get Jessica Jones out there, everybody knows that Luke Cage is up and going. What I can say right now is we're very excited about Iron Fist."

Rumor: Netflix Planning IRON FIST Movie, PUNISHER TV Series

Iron-Fist-Punisher-103115-Dragonlord.jpg

According to Peel the Orange, Marvel is considering replacing the Iron Fist series with a Punisher series. As it turns out, it could actually be a good thing for fans of Iron Fist, as the site just received this email from a source who works within Marvel Creative but wanted to remain anonymous:

"Marvel will be turning Iron Fist into a Netflix exclusive feature film. This will give Marvel extra time and a larger budget for this project. The Punisher will replace Iron Fist as one of the four Defenders."

Interesting. Take this with a grain of salt but that could be pretty cool. If you remember, this past summer the Netflix CEO said that they were open to making feature films for Marvel characters and this could be a way to start.

Netflix DEFENDERS Heroes Selected to Keep Production Cost Low

Netflix-Defenders-1109-Dragonlord.jpg

Marvel Entertainment dropped a bomb on its fans Thursday when announcing their partnership with Netflix to bring viewers four new series and a new mini-series to streaming video. Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones will all get their own 13-episode series and then they will all come together in an ensemble team mini-series as a reimagined/adapted The Defenders mini-series event. The solo series releasing on Netflix equals lots of binge viewing since all of the 13 episodes will release at the same time!

According to The Daily SuperHero, one of the most important things to note about all these series is the nature of the powers of each character. This should keep budgets down on each series, with the exception of perhaps The Defenders mini-series which may have a bit larger budget than the other four will.

Daredevil has his enhanced sonar because he is blind and is also a martial artist. Iron Fist is a martial artist with a powerful punch. Cage has indestructible skin and superhuman strength. Jones has superhuman strength. The point being is the cost to display all these heroes' powers will be lower than many expect and this means keeping the production budgets low to be able to put together such an ambitious streaming series universe.

There's no magic, armored suits or fantasy/space elements with any of these heroes' powers. Any of those types of powers can dramatically increase costs of any production via CG effects. These heroes are basically considered street heroes in New York City. Nevertheless, it's going to be a busy 2014 for Marvel since they will have all four of these series in production along with Agents of SHIELD, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man.

DAREDEVIL, IRON FIST and Others Could Still Get Feature Films...

Daredevil-Luke-Cage-Iron-Fist-Movies-Dragonlord.jpg

A few hours ago, Marvel and Netflix announced that they will be developing four live-action TV series starring Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, which will culminate in a Defenders mini-series. A question about Marvel's deal with Netflix came up during the Disney shareholders conference call today, and Jay Rasulo (Senior Executive VP and CFO of the The Walt Disney Company) had this to say about the chances of The Defenders still getting a chance to shine on the big screen after debuting on the small one.

"Marvel has thousands of characters...and it is not possible to mine them all with filmed entertainment. While these characters are attractive characters they are not among the most popular, it's not likely we would have made feature films about them...though if they are popular on Netflix, they could become feature films." It would certainly make sense to reintroduce audiences to the likes of Daredevil, and it's possible that Netflix will cast big enough stars (see: House of Cards) to make the jump to movies for these characters a legitimate possibility.

Marvel Announces DAREDEVIL, IRON FIST, LUKE CAGE, JESSICA JONES TV Series

Daredevil-Iron-Fist-Luke-Cage-Dragonlord.jpg

Press Release: The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix Inc. today announced an unprecedented deal for Marvel TV to bring multiple original series of live-action adventures of four of Marvel's most popular characters exclusively to the world's leading Internet TV Network beginning in 2015. This pioneering agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized programs leading to a miniseries programming event.

Led by a series focused on Daredevil, followed by Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell's Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel's The Defenders mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.

Produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios, this groundbreaking deal is Marvel's most ambitious foray yet into live-action TV storytelling.

"This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel's specialty," said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment. "This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what's sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure."

Alain Moussi in the Running to Play Danny Rand / IRON FIST?

Alain-Moussi-Iron-Fist-012815-Dragonlord.jpg

In the wake of the current production of the Kickboxer remake, Kickboxer: Vengeance, you may have been wondering exactly what lies next for its debut lead actor, Alain Moussi. Well, he may have given us an answer via his latest Facebook post. Moussi posted an image of an issue of The Immortal Iron Fist with the caption, "Time to do a little research... Lead with the mind... Iron Fist"

Either Moussi may be in the running to play Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist in the Netflix limited series or he's just drumming up fan support for the role. While neither group has officially confirmed the plot or Moussi's involvement in the new Iron Fist series, all roads currently point to a potential storyline involving the Heroes For Hire story arc with actor Mike Colter who is currently tapped to play superhero Luke Cage in Netflix's upcoming A.K.A. Jessica Jones to air sometime in 2015 or 2016.

In the meantime, if there is anything worth taking away from Moussi's post, it's the promise of watching the blooming career of a rising martial arts action star for a new generation of kung fu and comic book fans. An actor and a stuntman, Moussi is also known for his work on X-Men: Days of Future Past, Pacific Rim and White House Down.

Rumor: The Defenders Will Be in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR 2

Daredevil-Luke-Cage-Iron-Fist-Avengers-Dragonlord.jpg

According to Bleeding Cool (who tend to be a little hit and miss with scoops, but do have a good track record), Daredevil and his fellow Defenders will make their big screen debuts in Avengers: Infinity War - Part Two. There's no details on whether that will be a cameo appearance or something more, but Marvel will clearly pull out all the stops for the movie.

By 2019, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will have more than likely had starred in at least a couple of seasons each, not to mention The Defenders. Could an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War - Part Two lead to them getting solo movies in Marvel's Phase 4? In other news, the site also mentions that Agent Carter is "75%" confirmed for a second season.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talks about the possibility of bringing the Defenders into the Marvel movies due to the insanely positive reactions to Daredevil on Netflix:

"Well right now what Jeff Loeb and the TV guys are focusing on is those shows and certainly with Daredevil coming out last night and being so well received, the next one is already in production, the one after that has been announced, so I think they're doing quite well for themselves in that medium. We certainly have had discussions and thoughts of where down the line who could show up where but I think they're being very smart in saying, 'Let us establish this here, first' and they're off to a very very good start."

Rumor: DOCTOR STRANGE to Debut in Netflix's IRON FIST

Iron-Fist-Doctor-Strange-042315-Dragonlord.jpg

Like any rumor, you should take this with the requisite pinch of salt but Bleeding Cool have been on point with some of their Marvel related scoops recently, so it's probably best to pay attention at least. According to their sources, Marvel plans to introduce the character of Doctor Strange in one of their upcoming Netflix TV shows; specifically Iron Fist. They're not sure whether Benedict Cumberbatch will actually play the character in the flesh, but reckon it's a good bet that he'll "at least do the voice."

It's fairly known Marvel like to lay the groundwork before introducing a new character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe whenever possible, and aside from a brief mention in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it's been all quiet on the Dr. Strange front. Granted introducing a major player on TV before his own film is uncharted territory, but if the plan really is to merge everything together for the Infinity War movies anyway, it doesn't seem too far fetched. Plus, Iron Fist is definitely the character that makes the most sense to pair up Stephen Strange with.

Ryan Phillippe Meeting with Marvel for Possible Netflix Project

Ryan-Phillippe-Iron-Fist-Dragonlord.jpg

Could Ryan Phillippe be Marvel's next Netflix superhero? The actor, currently starring on ABC anthology drama Secrets and Lies, told Howard Stern on Wednesday that he's having talks with the comic book powerhouse.

"I'm meeting with ... Marvel is interested in talking about Netflix, a series possibly," he told Stern on Wednesday as he promoted Sunday's Secrets and Lies season finale. Phillippe is among the stars of the ABC drama who have one-year deals for the series, which is heating up for a potential second-season renewal.

While no deal is in place for Phillippe (and Marvel declined comment), Netflix recently released the first of its upcoming five Marvel shows with Daredevil. The massive pact consists of Daredevil, starring Charlie Cox; Jessica Jones with Krysten Ritter; Iron Fist, which has yet to be cast; Jessica spinoff Luke Cage starring Mike Colter; and miniseries The Defenders, comprised of stars from all four other shows.

Following the interview, Phillippe took to Twitter for a follow-up: "I have no real Marvel news other than an upcoming meeting. Sorry to disappoint fans thought there was more to it. there is no story there," he wrote.

Meh, not everyone needs to be Michael Jai White/Wesley Snipe/Scott Adkins. There are stunt doubles, especially with masked superheroes.

That's true. But those guys you quoted proved it's actually possible to find martial artists who can act (okay, Adkins could be argued).

Plus it's not like they're casting actors so amazing nobody would care if they can't throw a punch. Phillippe isn't exactly DDL over here.
