Media Marcelo Garcia showing there's levels to this sht, tapping Ben Askren in 30 seconds

It's the same myth that's been debunked many times. "These MMA guys are soooo unskilled! BJJ expert X or Kickboxer Y is soooo much better! They could destroy them with just a little cross training!" Yet when Saki, Garcia, etc. actually try MMA, it's not as easy as people think. It's the same myth that's been debunked many times. "These MMA guys are soooo unskilled! It's like comparing the world's best runner to the world's best triathlete and saying "Levels, brah...that runner is so much better!"....knowing he could never beat the triathlete in his own sport.

Old video, but a classic. 6:24-6:44 is fucking retarded. MG is a Jedi.

Never seen a strong wrestler to go that weak against a smaller opponent. Obviously Askren is not using full power, he's trying to use technique so yeah technique vs technique Marcelo wins every time.

Most people with half a brain agree that when strikes are added, its a different sport, with different results. This thread isn't about that, just straight up grappling.

There are exceptions. Maia came over as an elite BJJ guy, in the end it got him to two title shots, in two weight classes.

MG only had one MMA bout, stopped 20 seconds in the second round by a cut, we'll never know how he would have really fared in MMA. He just wasn't into after that, but its not to suggest that he couldn't have been successful.

RDA, Cub Swanson, Thiago Alves, Dan Hardy, Mark Hunt, Glover Teixeira, Jon Fitch, Jacare, Andrei Arlovski, Cris Cyborg, Forrest Griffin, Sakuraba, Renan Barao, and many others lost their first fight.

The amazing thing about goat level bjj guys is that it sometimes looks like they are barely moving and their opponents just end up in a choke

That's not my point. Askren would embarrass MG worse under wrestling rules. He'd beat him easily in MMA. Saying "Expert A" is better than "MMA Fighter B" in one facet of MMA is a pointless exercise.

marcelo's amazing. don't try to use this to shit on askren though, at the time of this video he was 4 fights into his pro career and about a year away from training with duke roufus. ben's a monster.

This is true.
Still I did enjoy the video.

It’s a fucking shame we’ll never see funky in the ufc.

Now let's see how it pans out in a real situation

The guy is so slick, damn.

1. That’s practice
2. That’s a bjj legend
3. He actually does pretty decent

Try watching one of his fights before commenting on an askren thread
When Askren stop with all this bullshit talking and sign UFC, AND fight the best - because he claims he is one of the best, which I definitely disagree -, we talk again. Until then, enjoy your idol talking and talking, because it is the only thing he does good. Proved nothing tearing chickens in subevents. UFC is too much for him, and he knows it.

If you knew anything about Askren you'd know that he wanted to fight in the UFC years ago when his Bellator contract ended but they wouldn't sign him so he went to One FC. You've already shown more than once in the thread you absolutely do not know what you're talking about so please stop posting in it.
