Majority of Republicans now think college is bad

Creating an environment where college students learn respect, restraint and responsibility is garbage?
I didn't say that. Creating a sterile, gender segragated, joyless environment where kids enjoying adult freedom for the first time in their life have to conform to Islamic style morality is garbage.

It depends on many variables including the individual, the school, the school environment, the professors and program a student enrolls in. It seems like some institutions these days have become glorified daycare centers by day and degenerate nightclubs by night.

If I were running a university, then I would make uniforms mandatory, ban alcohol, drugs and parties on campus, institute a strict curfew policy, segregate the sexes and keep identity studies propaganda away from the campus.

Lol. Ridiculous.

That has been my experience with psychology profs for sure (one of which, her son trained with us, and hated his mother lol), i think this was just one of those Peterson types who managed to get through the cracks. I'm neither lib nor con so either side is irrelevant to me when both the far sides act like dolts, but this guy never voiced any other opinion other than he hated obama and his supporters. Outside of that he seemed very, very normal. Stuck to the topics, provided both sides of arguments, let you decide on your papers etc.

Easy there... don't confuse psychology (study of the brain and its functions) with sociology (pseudo-science which "studies" human society through "creative statistics").
:)

I was a college/grad/prof student for longer than anyone that you know and I never once had a professor try to influence the politics of the classroom. I'm convinced that the whole liberal socialist proselytizing college professor stereotype is a complete fabrication designed to mask the fact that as intelligent educated people begin to consider political questions they overwhelmingly conclude that progressive egalitarian principles are the most logically sound.

Intro psych and developmental psych are not in that direction, those come in 3rd and 4th year classes where psych actually is VERY interesting.
This was more like, Freud, pavlov's dogs, oedipus, self fulfilling prophecy, human sexuality and influences (which really should be tied more into sociology as well). She was a nut case, we used to play drinking games in class for every time she uttered her catch phrases. 3 hour classes were tolerable then.

EDIT: those other type of classes you are referring to, get more tied into neuroscience, motor learning, motor control etc, which i got to study later. Learning how and why we make executive decision, parts of the brain affected, what happens when we have too much glutamate (neurotoxicity). That class was interesting, seeing despinalized and decerbrated cats running on treadmills.

Maybe that was old school professors. The new info you hear is safe spaces, playdoh, coloring books, LGBTQ, vegetarian leftists.

I wonder how long a conservative professor would last on campus if his true beliefs came out? That prof out in Washington was called a racist and the campus rioted. Then there's Peterson in Canada catching Hell for not using correct pronouns.

Hyperbole for effect aside, the "Marxist" college professor trope has been around for quite some time. All I can say is that it wasn't my experience.

Most people support Peterson actually, even most Torontonians do as well, but the media is a freight train in this country for some things, that being one of them.

I learned a lot in college but it could be because I finished up in my mid 20s rather than right after high school there is a lot of "conditioning" that goes on. You don't toe that line of feeling bad for every refugee and don't sign the latest petition to ban some shit from campus you aren't really ostracized but a lot of your classmates won't even look at you either.

Lol. Ridiculous.

Universities and College are a place for higher learning. Why do College students need to indulge in degeneracy and vice on campus? There are countless places off campus where they can indulge in hedonism and degeneracy. If there is at least one place that should hold people to higher standards and be considered a sacred place it should be the University. God knows the churches are not doing it anymore.

College debt is modern day slavery.

The everyone needs to go to college line, is a scam.

Damn, do you have a PhD in psychology? I took a Pscyh 150 (not the intro course, one above it) for my Associates in Science degree before I moved to a university. The class was fun as hell and very interesting... we discussed conditioning and Freud and all of that, but we also went into the parts of the brain and how they communicate with each other. It was very interesting and had I not already been on an engineering path it's something I may have actually pursued.

My point in my previous post was that it's not reasonable to group both psychology and sociology into the same area of science. One is an actual science while the other is not.

@Devout Pessimist why do you hate Islam so much if your values line up so much with Muslims?

A lot of my values do line up with some Islamic beliefs. The big difference is that I do not believe in forcing women to cover their heads or face and killing apostates or homosexuals. I am in agreement with Islam when it comes to reasonably segregating the sexes, banning drugs and alcohol, promoting sexual restraint, enforcing dress codes, and punishing criminals in a harsh manner.

I would thrive in a strict religious society. I would prefer a Catholic society over Islam.
