What do you kid about?

I was taking some time last week to get used to my work schedule before I do it and lifting. Then I got poison ivy on my arms. Now the ivy's mostly gone, and I think I have a staph infection on my leg... FML.

That's rough John. Get better!

Thanks, fellas. Doc wasn't sure if it's staph or not; didn't take a culture, but it's obviously a skin infection of some kind. No puss as of yet, so either I got on the immune boosting supplements and started using the antibiotic ointment quick enough to keep it from getting bad, or it's something that just looks similar.

Had a desire to lift today, but I figured it was better if I let all my body's resources (beyond walking all day at work) go to fighting the infection. Hopefully this thing clears up soon.

Today - Staph seems to be basically gone. Still keeping it covered and putting antibiotic cream on it, but felt it was good enough to go ahead and lift today.

Int/Ext rotations with band, stretches, a few bridges

After using my bench to bench a few times, now, I'm really not liking it for that... As squat stands it's okay, although it's not a rack and I'd be tentative about putting too much weight on it, but as a bench, it's too tall for my short-ass legs, the sectioning makes it hard to arch, the the upper portion (which moves for incline/decline/squats) is a little wobbly, even with a couple 2x4 chunks under each side.

Today - ~ 2 hours of rolling with my buddy who's up from TN visiting some family. I helped him get interested in BJJ last fall, but since the first of the year, he's been training hard core and is amazing, now. The only submissions I even had an opening to go for where a kneebar and a heel hook, and he got out of the way of them quickly. I did get a hip toss on him, but he was able to sweep and mount me almost immediately off of it.

What happened to your numbers? Did you just take a long time off lifting?

Yeah. Took like 2 months off after graduation, and even since I got trying to get back into it, it's been sporadic, so almost like 3 months off.
Also, I'm not pushing super hard right now, 'cause I've only got roughly 315lbs counting bar.

I meant to do some lifting Saturday, but I had some serious poison ivy on my hands over the weekend. It's pretty much gone now. Looking like I'll just have been delayed a week.

Spent about 15 minutes throwing a baseball with my buddy this evening, followed by about an hour and a half of alternating between hitting softballs, pitching, and fetching the balls. Not real taxing, as I hardly put a full swing behind anything I connected with, besides the 3 golf balls we found that I put into the lake, but it was fun and good motivation for my buddy to increase his level of physical activity beyond work and fishing.

Yesterday, did about 45 minutes of picking out and loading good sized chunks of tree into the back of my truck to bring home for firewood. Pieces averaged a foot and a half in diameter by 5 foot long. Took about 10 minutes to unload after I got home.

Also had another 2 hours of hitting and chasing softballs later in the evening. Had 3 of us for part of the time, so I got some time as the fielder, spent doing light sprints after balls, as opposed to just walking to get the balls after pitching.

Session cut short to go shooting with my best friend who's home for a week on leave. Will try to hit OHP and pull-ups tomorrow.

Did about an hour of rolling/instructing the best friend's 15 yr old brother. Refreshed him on mount escape, hip toss, and armbar a bit, and he actually did a couple pretty good hip tosses, albeit on unresisting people. Also taught the 3 year old how to do an armbar and helped him armbar the 15 year did.
Did get a couple rolls in with the best friend. First round he caught me with a 10 finger guillotine awful quick. 2nd round, he tried for it again, but I worked through it, took his back (which finally broke the lock he had on my neck) and was working for a RNC when I accidentally poked his eye. Called it a night after that.

A bit longer than normal due to alternating sets (and changing weights) with my friend's friend who's up from FLA for the wedding and entertaining a 3 year old between sets.

Got some bottom up zercher squats and zercher carries today, loading 10 ~6' chunks of tree into my truck to bring it home to cut up into firewood.

I want to test current 1RMs sometime this week and start 5/3/1 on a 2 day split next week. That's my intentions at least at this time...

Today

Spent the early afternoon climbing trees and using a hand and pole saw to cut tent-worms outa my grandma's trees

Didn't try for any more. Felt like I could probably have gotten 275 (my all-time PR), but I don't have a spotter or rack and didn't feel like doing a roll of shame if I could help it, especially with my dad asleep upstairs. Not too bad for not lifting regularly since May... Let's see the rest now.

Probably could've got more, but my forearms aren't used to it, and I ran out of weight, too. Thought about going for a second rep, but I figure lowballing my max ain't gonna hurt.
Also realized that my Nose Tork has lost pretty much all it's odor... Either that or my sense of smell has gotten worse.

Squat
Decided not to squat on top of ZDLs today. My best working set recently was 305 for a single, so I think that using a max squat of 315 to get my training max to work from for 531 is alright.

Don't remember what my best strict press is, but I think it's like 185... So again, not too bad. Upper body movements haven't seem to lost a whole lot compared to lower...
