My laptop oddly shut down in the middle of use. I was working on a power point presentation as it happened. Then when it came back on it said recovering c drive. Once windows booted all my files were around except for the one I was working on (even though I had saved it). If I open up PowerPoint it shows the file but when I click on it then it says file is missing. If I go to the folder where I saved the file it isn’t there.

Anyway I can get this file back??? I spent 3+ hours on it.

Damn sounds like you're screwed

Rip in peace m8

Thats why you should not download the porno, bro!

what flavor of Office do you have?

Step 1: PANIC
Step 2: Quickly re-write whatever you remember before you forget
Step 3: Save the file more often in the future

Open up the console and type in "Godmode" then you will know and see all.

If you’re using Windows, click the start button and type the name of the file in, executing a search for it. Leave the file extension off the search because it may have saved it as some kind of temporary file with a different extension. If the file comes up in the search results, right click the file name and select open containing folder or something like that to see where it is. If it’s saved as some kind of temp file, google how you change that file into a ppt file.

Also, check your recycle bin if that doesn’t work. If neither works and you can’t find the file by searching in windows explorer, you’re fucked.

. Do you have iolo System Mechanic? May want to download and try that.

. I would shut everything down and re-start the computer. What does your file or folder say under 'properties'? If it is 0 (zero) than unfortunately it did not save and you lost it. How long has it been since you defraged the hard drive?

. You can also try 'system restore' to an earlier date if you have that option. Not sure if it would work for under 12 hours.

. Google the Microsoft 1-800 number for 24/7 assistance. Talk to one of their technicians. They can go into your system, for a fee, and see what they can find. I needed their assistance once in getting rid of a virus and they were very helpful.

Right click on the folder it was saved in, choose "Restore previous versions".

Maybe try a recovery tool, there mostly aimed at getting deleted files but it might work, Recuva is free.

Back in my college days, I would always save the file AND e-mail it to myself every half a page or so, just in case.

Yeah, just begin re-do the Power-Point presentation. Or be a bad ass, and just not show up to the presentation.

you can try testdisk.

i typically use it to recover lost/damaged partitions on hard drives and thumb drives, but it also recovers lost files as well IIRC.

Don't help TS. This guy doesn't clean his vaporizer.

Have you tried turning it off and then on again?

If that doesn’t work, well fuck me you better get started on that powerpoint again

Not sure that you'll be able to get that back.

Try clicking File>Recent>Recover Unsaved Presentations

Or File>Info>Manage Versions>Recover Unsaved Presentations

What version of Windows do you have?

Make sure you have AutoSave/AutoRecover on before you start a new project.

Remove the HDD, place it under a microscope and search for fragments of the file content.
Once you have gathered enough fragments, cut the HDD into pieces, rearrange it and put it back into your pc.

Naturally if youre working on a SSD this method wont work and youre screwed.
