A couple of years ago now...
but it's always nice to reflect on what was:

I've always been curious if anyone else ever noticed it.

Nah, I never thought that about Kid before and I think I may have read almost every single post he ever compiled on the site. Never crossed my mind.

That's not funny at all...yeah, sure if you find maligning all grappling sports and equating MMA with homo-erotic behavior funny..

come to think of it I'm glad this thread was created...I'm glad kid mcCoy got banned...

and the others in this thread who feel the need to bash MMA, there are many boxing only forums around...why not go to those..

MMA hating Boxing fans are no better or worse than MMA fans who come here and say stupid $hit like boxing is dead.

God you suck

maybe he was just a bullshitter, everyone's got a little bullshitter in them, just look at our presidential candidates.

This thread was made in the Pre-Dejulez era.

I just ran across this old post of Kid's last week when I was looking for an old post of mine for that amateur boxing thread;

"A little truth, a little BS; Boom, you get a post together." - Kid

Sorry but his constant MMA bashing and repeated attempts at labeling Tim Sylvia one of the best MMA fighters of all time was annoying and ridiculous.

Come on, LI....
not on this thread. This is solely remembrance.
I'm not saying your comments have no weight - just not here.
You savage BASTARD!!

Guy was the Badr Hari of posting. Really good when he tried, and a mess when he didn't.

ya, it's normal i think, call me jaded. sometimes the excess bs is worth it though.

Paul ate too much cheese, not good for the mind.

Even with a little bullshit thrown in here and there, Kid was still the best poster this site has ever seen in my opinion. Both in the substance of his posts as well as the structure. And like you say, Moz, we all have a little bullshit in us on occasion.

Kid McCoy was kind of a wang IMO.

Fun to talk to until you madehim realize he was wrong about something. Then he'd start calling you names and shit.

I still think he was a troll account multiple people used. Either that or he lied about his past.

he was, his knowledge spanned ridiculous lengths and of course I'm skeptical of anyone who claims to have a strong opinion of the pre-1920 fighters since we don't have much to judge on, he was still the best. I remember him claiming Joe Louis was the best hand to hand, unarmed combatant ever, bar none.. sometimes he'd say things and you'd go "what the fuck" but you gave him so much credence that you had to entertain his ideas.

Yeah, his knowledge was tremendous and especially his posts that were historical in nature, which made up the majority of his posts back then. Tons of good shit was included in those even if you didn't agree with his more opinion based points in his posts. Those opinions of his deserved respect because you knew that they were informed regardless. Kid did add a lot of troll directed at the MMA fanbase towards the end of his run here, but that was limited in the years before. As somebody who used to post a lot about history in the past here I can kinda understand why he got away from that towards the end too. Nobody seems to give a shit about boxing history anymore at this place, or if they do, they don't want to discuss it. I started a thread a couple of months ago on here discussing some historical stuff while trying to promote a little bit of discussion and I think I got maybe one or two responses in it that could further discussion. Why even bother posting stuff like that when very few people seem to give a shit? It used to be a lot different on here in that regards.

who knows, he might still be here, i thought actjac might be him under a diff screen name.

I find that no one really likes discussing boxing history on this site. They like to let people know that they know who Duran is and like to post "lol" when you dare say a modern fighter could have competed 50 years ago.

Thats the big thing missing on this site lately. No one really studies the eras of the sport subjectively anymore. Its all who is ducking this popular fighter and what Mayweather said in a recent interview.

Sylvia was a solid HW. He had obvious flaws in his game but had quality wins on his record.

I don't see a huge difference in sylvia and most of todays heavies to be honest.

That's all true, Seano. I just did a quick check on the threads over the last month and maybe found six of them that could be classified as historical in nature. If you went back 8-10 years there may have been that many that were active on any given day. It's been slowly declining since then to where it's almost non-existent nowadays. That's fine and all if people don't want to discuss it. It just means that us people who like and prefer to discuss history have to adapt and change what we post about.

The one fishy thing I noticed is that Kid McCoy said that he went by the name "KO Cavity" here.... but, there is another active poster named "KO Cav" who also used the name "KO Cavity". Now, "KO Cav" is possibly one of the most knowledgeable posters on this site.

However, there is a thread floating around where Tam and KO Cav are arguing with Bradlee (bradguy) and Kid McCoy.... so go figure.

The last threads that Seano made were "Yusaf Mack makes a gay porn" and "GGG bombs at the box office" not anything historical. So I'll admit I laughed a bit when he was just lamenting about how sorely this forum is missing quality historical debate and how people just talk about things that Mayweather said. I actually think he once made a thread about a TMZ-style fighthype article regarding a bystander overhearing Floyd lecturing Pacquiao about honesty and integrity at a basketball game.

I'm not hating on Seano here, I don't mind any of his threads at all. The last one I mentioned turned into a modern classic. But there are a lot of guys on here that like discussing history (jay, slim, LI, Ironfist, Moz, to name a few) and they do so often.

I miss that guy. He had some quality posts. Learned something new every time I read his serious posts. It was pretty funny too when he was talking shit to the UFC fans.

Today, people are more concerned with winning arguments and dropping insults on other posters than in listening and learning from people who know things that they don't know. That seems crazy on its face, but it's undeniably true. And posters like Kid McCoy are marginalized in the current environment.

I used to lurk back then, don't shit on him in this thread.

I can't believe he would ever just up and leave.
He has to be here under another name.

maybe he just started posting on another site, plenty of them out there. I don't think he'd just give up the online thing altogether though. when you have that kind of passion you need to do something.

Its a different crop of posters here now, though. Moz, Sharkey and I get it. There were a lot more hardcore boxing fans here, fans who enjoyed the sport. I think we get a lot more casuals here now. I'm not even saying its a bad thing, just saying its different now. This really was a fantastic boxing forum for a couple of years.

And I'm not just saying this because I like those guys better than current posters. There were as many asshole then as now.

Tim Sylvia for the life of him never learned to defend an overhand right...

and if you find no difference from him and the current top Heavweights, you aren't paying attention...

Tim Sylvia wouldn't even be a current top ten...

Tim Sylvia had a good jab and was able to utilize distance...nothing beyond that...

No sidetracking this thread...

or else:

I used to try and counter-troll that screen name for sh*ts and giggles.

In hindsight, that was an incredibly lame way for all involved to be spending their time.

i notice the younger fans aren't as knowledgable too, it's ironic because with the internet, we have more accessibility than ever to more fights than any of us ever watch. When I was a young fan, i was interested in the current fighters but I was enthusiastic enough to read about the old timers and watch for clips that were always shown here and there. Todays fans generally are just all about now, I guess that's not abnormal but i wasn't like that when I was young, in fact, it's the opposite, I really don't want to see any of the new guys because they let me down. I love the sport and know it could be better.

To be fair, I really don't follow MMA anymore. I see plenty of HWs though, who are nothing more than big punchers with TD defense which is what Timmah was.

I would take the best Tim over a guy like Roy Nelson.

There were very few posters with his knowledge and very few posters with his energy and enthusiasm for posting in this relatively slow subforum. There was nobody else who had both.

Too bad he'll be remembered as the boxing guy who trolled MMA fans. For years he was very patient with MMA fans and boxing noobs who started the same types of silly discussions that they still do today, and do on every boxing forum in the world. He used to be really good about elevating those discussions by taking them seriously and then providing the (lengthy) evidence of why the premises were wrong. I guess he eventually grew tired of doing that. Too bad.

I will say that there were some discussions with Kid Mccoy where I felt completely out of my league and uninformed....I thought I was talking to an encyclopedia of Boxing...

He was one of the reasons why I came back to the boxing forum several times...

I thought I knew boxing...but compared to him...I was a novice.

Where'd those other posters go? It's weird that they'd just disappear.

I really don't know much about boxers prior to the Ali era, besides the stuff that everyone knows (I don't really count watching SRR and Willie Pep highlights as having knowledge).

Oh, and I always made threads like the Yusaf Mack thing. Thats just my sense of humor.

Check out this one- this one was underrated IMO.

hahahaha Jesus, don't remind me of that. I actually had NO idea that had happened until I joined here. Cottagecheesefan told me about it, and might have even linked me to that thread because I definitely saw that thread before.

A lot of the posters from that era went to the NOBS boxing forum, which I visit occasionally. I find that site slower than this one for traffic though.

On Kid McCoy he was in my opinion the best poster I've read on the site, and try as I might, I found it impossible to age him. Usually you get a feel for a posters age, but with him I struggled. He would talk about events, from say the 30s, in such a way, that you could almost believe he was around then. His trolling of the MMA fans was borne of frustration I assume, but it was a bleak day when he received his marching orders.

I think KO Cav and Kid McCoy got in an argument over whether Rocky Marciano could throw an elbow shot like Tito Ortiz.

NOBS is very slow compared to here, but has a great quality of posters there. Very little bickering, unless you act like a dick. Then you'll get run out of there. But I've definitely been enlightened by some very knowledgable people there.

This is becoming a COT DAYMUN Tim Sylvia appreciate thread.

Who do you think was using the profile??

I don't know. I argued with that guy a lot and he was either multiple people or a liar. He told stories about his past that changed depending on how his argument was going. Contradicted himself all the time.

NOBS, most users online at the same time was 72 on March 10th, 2014.
Thats pretty god damn slow.
