    My biggest takeaways were the questionable mannerisms by the men and that enormous moose knuckle.

    It plays slow because of the way film was made back then. It looks much more normal at x1.25. You can see that it has not been sportified yet and so it looks more like the traditional arts that are still primarily martial.

    take a loot at boxing from the 1890's, nothing like what it is today.

    IMO Savate is good.
