He's huge in the muslim world as muslims for some inexplicable reason tend to think that him beating people up somehow validates their ridiculous religion. And they're kinda desperate for stuff like that. Khabib is also big with MMA fans (because he really is fucking awesome at beating people up). Thirdly, he has the obvious Dagestan and Russian fanbase.

HOWEVER, outside of these three groups of people, he's NEVER going to become much of a star. He has very little to offer in terms of charisma and "x factor," qualities that Conor does in fact possess bucketloads of. And let's not forget that this guy, as good as he is, needed Conor to really make it to the big time. And it won't be enough to help him transcend the sport among Westerners - because he isn't really star material. Him becoming a "world champion" wasn't even enough to make members of the muslim community go apeshit over him. It was when he beat Conor McGregor that things really took off.
