Keyboard Jockey Attempts Two AR-15 Builds

You seen this? Interesting build

Love the creativity. Wouldn't be my choices, but that's what makes it fun. Not sure where I'm at with Mr. Bones. That one has somehow fallen to the wayside.

Yeah definitely wouldn't be my first choice. An interesting concept might be with a F1 upper/handguard

You could see a nice fluted barrel pretty well and maybe do some kind of black gold type set up with a TiN bcg. Black barrel, gold flutes. Leave the skull white with random veins of gold going through the rest of the lower/upper/handguard. Call it gold digger or something

Which block you using?

I had originally planned to go with one I bought from Anderson Rifles, but ended up selling it. So now I'm going with one from Joe Bob's Outfitters . . . I can get them super cheap from other vendors, but doesn't make much sense to buy from them if I'm only getting one of something most times.

I dig all of that, but not with the skull. Would be great for the lightweight build that's on the agenda down the line.

One thing Mr. Bones is gonna need is a quality cerakoting so research into good places to send it to needs to happen.

Is that the Seekins-style with the adjustment screw to the back instead of on the muzzle side?

Blown Deadline is where I'm getting my radian build done.

Plus he's a bit of a metal head. Loves Gojira and stuff of that nature.

Looks like awesome work. I now have a front-runner.

After reviewing the parts list for Mr. Bones, there's a few things I'm not totally sold on (bolt catch, trigger, muzzle device). Maybe I'll get motivated after paying for the upcoming pistol mods from Cajun Gun Works. Too much thinking for my limited capacity.

Posted pics of this before but it's hard to capture the actual color on my phone

Looking forward to getting the upper and handguard from bdl.

Anyone looked into the 5D Tactical jig for milling out 80% lowers? Supposed to be the best thing for completing them.

Not I. But interested for sure if it's a good combination of idiot-proof and affordable.:cool:

After completing the final 20% there needs to be finish applied, yeah? What's the degree of difficulty involved in that?

I know some people don't finish it. Aluminum won't rust. So I've read some just use a thick lube protectant that stays on extremely well(and reapply periodically)

However you live in HI and salt water can corrode aluminium.

So I've read that Alodine and finish with aluma-hyde is really good.

I'm sure just cerakote would work as well.

You can buy them anodized or unfinished and as @RerouteToRemain mentioned folks cerakote them too. I've seen several folks prep them and paint them with Krylon or some other rattle can paint with some good success.

I actually bought an 80% Glock lower the other day from Brownell's when they were under $70. Just need to buy the lower parts, barrel, slide and upper springs . . . I'll buy a few parts here and there. Then give completing it a whirl. The slide is the most costly part. I can get a barrel from RSR for a very decent price. Need to dig around and see if any of my distributors have other Glock parts.

Thinking about buying another AR lower just to have. No real plan for it though.

Does BCM sell any completed uppers? Or Daniel Defense?
