After rewatching the fight again, Kevin Lee is a special fighter

Rewatch the first round of that fight, even though he gassed - his top game is something scary. It reminds me of Luke Rockholds top game (my favorite in the sport that doesn't belong to Maia or Jacare), with it's blend of strength and skill while also being able to float on top. In that division in terms of raw effectiveness he's probably second to Khabib. Tony Ferguson is one of the best scramblers in the sport, and Lee was able to shut down his funk game.

It's a shame he got so tired, his striking also looked legitimately good in the first round of that fight (and even a bit in the second and third)

But the most important thing here is that he's 25, he's a very young fighter at a good camp with a lot of experience under his belt and not much damage. He's never really shown true cardio issues before this fight, and we all know that Tony is a freak of nature when it comes to pace, so if he can get his weight under control (and I believe he had a staph infection which certainly didn't help his cut) or grow into his frame at 170 OR if a 165 division is opened I believe he'll fight his way back to a title shot and with the right style matchup I think we could easily be looking at a future champion.

Considering he's four years younger than the youngest of that group, that (while being an obviously dismissive quip) is kind of part of the take.

He's only 25 and already can hardly make weight that is only going to get harder the older he gets.

As long as he can continue to make that weight there's not a doubt in my mind he'll be the 155 champ someday

He probably will move to WW, I'm not sure how good he will be at WW but at LW he may have a chance after a couple of years

Rewatch tony escaped before the round ended, Lee was never winning that, he blew his load on fergs forearms ala Carwin v Lesnar.

In response to TS I though lee said he was moving up, not sure how well he will translate to WW. If 165 belt became available I can see that, lot of respect after the ferg fight.

Lee owned him when he was fresh. The staph infection ruined it for him. He will be champ someday.

He won't be champion. He's not that good. He is athletic & naturally gifted but there is nothing that stands out with him like a Jones or Conor.

Staphless Lee is a contender for sure. Like sea level Cain.

Not unless Khabib struggles to make weight for the rest of his career he wont. Khabib would straight up grapple fuck him.

He already said post-fight that he's going to have to move up to 170 soon. Maybe as soon as next fight. Woodley beats him with ease as do other Welterweights like Masvidal and Wonderboy. Even Cowboy would be trouble for him.

There was a time on Sherdog where H replaced R in everyday conversation. But that trend came and went, like so many Sherdog fads before it. Putting an (R) after Chael Sonnen's (R) name is another fad that I particularly miss.

He looked great before he got tired plus he took the loss very well and I think he will improve as a result. Lee has a very bright future, just needs to sort his weight cut out.
