Karate Kid: Part III

I'm sorry, but despite the origins of the Okinawan who invented "Karate," it is still a fact that "Karate" originated in Okinawa and not Japan. It makes no sense that an Okinawan would travel to China to learn something that originated in Okinawa (unless Miyagi is claiming his ancestor is the one who studied in China and ultimately created Karate from his teachings in China).

I think that's what they're getting at, Miyagi traveled to China and learned martial arts which later developed into Miyagi styled Karate.

They could have easily done this as a Godfather II type story, with current Miyagi and original Miyagi having two separate narratives interwoven into one movie.

You can even tie the stories together at the end with Terry Silver being the relative of original miyagi's rivals or some shit. They could've made it work while still keeping Mike Barnes and Terry Silver.

Fun fact: Daniel Laruso is OLDER than Terry Silver!

If done right that would quite the film.

But I don't really see a need to tie the characters together outside of showing parallels between the past and today. Daniel Larusso and Past Miyagi would have played the wondering souls with rough skillset's to develop.

That said, I didn't think Karate Kid III was so bad (except for the fact that Miyagi was inexplicably a pacifist all the sudden).

I stopped reading at “Well he wasn’t Japanese. He was Okinawan and originally Okinawan Karate originated from China.” Seriously, I am clocking out of here.

Get ready to "wax on, wax off" again -- the "Karate Kid" is coming back!

Ralph Macchio will reprise his role as Daniel LaRusso in "Cobra Kai," a series coming to YouTube Red, ABC News has confirmed.

According to an official press release from YouTube, the series will take place 30 years after the events of the All Valley Karate Tournament. Also returning from the 1984 movie is William Zabka, aka Cobra Kai bully Johnny Lawrence.

Lawrence is the character Daniel defeated in the film's climactic karate tournament.

"A down-and-out Johnny Lawrence (Zabka) seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now successful Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), who has been struggling to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi," the release said.

It continues, "The show is about two men addressing past demons and present frustrations the only way they know how: through karate."

Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg will write the series. Heald is the man behind hits like "Hot Tub Time Machine," while Hurwitz and Schlossberg are known for "Harold & Kumar."

“The minute I heard about this project, I knew we had to have it," said Susanne Daniels, global head of original content at YouTube.

Pat Morita, who played Kensuke Miyagi in the first four movies, died in 2005.

"Cobra Kai" is slated to debut next year.

Yeah, there's a thread about it:

I was really on board . . . until I found out they were planning for it to be a comedy.

A Cobra Kai centered show sounds cool, but I'm not sure about playing it for laughs. The Kai is no joke!

I have no clue how they're making this a comedy.

I can think of ways and none of them are good.

If they simply must insist on comedy, then it really needs to be more of a drama with some comedic elements. If they try to go full on comedy with it, then I guarantee you it will fail badly.
