Striking resemblance to this guy.
This is really a pick'em fight that could go either way, but I'll take Rose too because I can't get over the image of Waterson getting the holy hell beat out of her by a 4'11" midget who promptly lost her next two fights in Invicta.
I totally agree with @Tonfa here. I just rewatched that fight and Rose *absolutely* was better than KK on the feet. KK won in the clinch and that was it. Rose constantly landed that overhand right like it was going out of style. Was a VERY, VERY close fight. Rose won round 1 easily, KK round 3 and round 2 was a toss-up.
Stopped reading when you became deluded, which was around the "beats Joanna" part.
I'd have to rewatch it again, I don't remember Rose getting better of the striking, then again I was probably drunk too.
Just rewatched it, Rose won the first as she landed more shots, but she has no power. She landed a few strikes in the first 2 mins of the 2nd round but had nothing behind it, no question KK won the 2nd as she was gaining momentum and the fresher fighter. Third round Rose is visably gassed and gets dropped by a short uppercut from KK and gets put on her back and gets GnP for the rest of the round.
After reviewing it again, I feel even more strongly that MW will beat her soundly.
You should get that image out of your mind.
Pretty obvious that Waterson wasn't able to show up for that fight because of the weight cut. Tiburcio looking subpar at 105 after that and Waterson laying waste to 115 in the UFC afterwards is proof enough to me that it was a bullshit outlier fight.
Waterson signed a 1-fight deal with Invicta to take that fight on short notice to help out her friend Julie Kedzie, the matchmaker, who had just been screwed over by Cyborg. Cyborg has pulled out of the main event because of a "injury". In reality we all know she just couldn't make weight.
I know Michelle says she had no plans of going to the UFC and wanted to defend her Invicta belt, but I think the idea was germinating in her head. People had constantly been talking about her moving to the UFC after 115 opened up.
I mean, she was killing herself at 105, the difference in health at weigh ins is astounding:
Let's consider the UFC's top ten (eleven) in the strawweight division for a moment.
Champion : Joanna Jedrzejczyk
1 Claudia Gadelha
2 Karolina Kowalkiewicz
3 Jessica Andrade
4 Rose Namajunas
5 Tecia Torres
6 Michelle Waterson
7 Joanne Calderwood
8 Randa Markos
9 Carla Esparza
10 Maryna Moroz
Of these fighters, who has Michelle Waterson fought? The answer: zero. Waterson hasn't fought any of these women.
So, Waterson has a lot of career fight experience, certainly more than Namajunas over all, but none with the current UFC top ten.
Of these UFC current top ten fighters, how many has Rose Namajunas fought? The answer: five, if we include the fights that occurred on The Ultimate Fighter season 20. Of those five top ten fighters, Rose beat three. Those three were Tecia Torres (1-1 against Torres over all fights, 1-0 in the UFC--UFC on Fox 19), and Randa Markos and Joanne Calderwood (on TUF 20). Namajunas had UFC losses to Carla Esparza and Karolina Kowalkiewicz in regular UFC fights.
When comparing the fight experience of Namajunas and Waterson, we should arguably consider the current UFC ranking of the fighters experienced as well. Namajunas is the only one of the two with any experience fighting the current UFC top ten.
Not dissing Michelle Waterson. I like her a lot, and think she has a good chance against Rose. But I think Rose has a very good chance against her as well.
If Rose brings her best game, then I favor her to win. The problem is, Rose can be very inconsistent about bringing her best game.
I've pointed this out and outright said I think this is a big test for Waterson, not for Rose. We know how Rose does against the best. She's just ok.
However, it's a test I think Michelle is going to pass, with flying colors. There will be no doubt that she is next in line for a shot a the belt after this performance.
MMA math is a science
At least she looks like a woman and not a teenage boy.
How dare you bring logic into a thread? And then put me in the position of agreeing with you?
If Waterson was fighting Cyborg, you would be the only one saying Michelle would win.
Hottie by sub in the third round
Nah, ain't no hype train. Waterson is a vet and battle tested
I'm not *that* crazy.
Honestly, I've been pretty consistent about saying Rose vs. Waterson will be a close fight.
However, in the past couple of days, after rewatching thier recent fights, I've started to lean heavily towards Michelle. We will see, but I've been fairly good at picking fights lately.
Karate MILF FTW
its an interesting fight, Michelle is the more polished and more proven fighter..... but Rose is a major talent and could easily win in any position.
Im a fan of both, so hope its a good fight
Pointing out that you just put the hoodoo on yourself.
