Law Kamala Harris announces new office to implement ‘red flag’ gun control laws

If someone has spent time in a mental institution then I think treating them the same way we treat felons when it comes to gun ownership is reasonable.

How about someone who has threatened to kill themselves or others that hasn't spent time in a mental institution?

People who do that should be locked up in a mental institution.

It takes a lot of evidence to involuntarily lock someone up in a mental institution. So if those people are displaying signs that they should be locked up in a mental institution, should their guns be removed from their possession until that process plays out?

Streamline the process. There's loads of nutjobs walking the street these days that should be locked up.

Sounds like you are in favor of creating an office to make sure those people don't have access to guns.

The guns are immaterial. Dangerous psychos shouldn't just be walking around. Emptying out mental institutions onto the streets was a massive fuckup.

So if the judge find reason they will.

Cops should not just be able to just take someone's guns on anyone's say so unless they have one on them and committed a crime.

Removing a right should always require due process.
This is one of the ways you gun guys make murder/death easier. Did you know that over half of mass shooting involve domestic partners? Are you aware that men who own hand guns are 400 times more likely to commit suicide?

You can't ignore the reality when discussing this.

You should not be able to take someone's rights away because they might do something.

You think it's ok to lock someone up because someone said they might do something.

There is due process. If the cops believe someone is a danger and they have some kind of proof then the can get a judge to order a temporary removal of the guns. Then within 48 hours they set a hearing with legal counsel.

We have already been through manipulate figures you like to quote.

If they're deemed too dangerous to own a firearm should they be walking free among the rest of us?

If they shouldn't, taking away access to guns is a good first step.
