you see thais jump on tires alot, I used to do it quite a bit years ago. I have not done it for a long time now. Now I just skip rope. I was thinking of jumping on tires again rather than skipping. what do you guys think is a better work out for the legs? or pretty much the same? I think skipping may work the cardio more. skpping and jumping on tires seems to be pretty much the same movement. I am wanting to build strenght in the calves and legs.

To say which one is better, I don't know. However, I say do the one that you enjoy the most.

Do power jumps, get humbled. You don't need a tire or rope.
Stand in squat position and jump tap your knees as high as you can get them. 45 seconds nonstop, rest a minute and go again.

It's pretty normal in Thailand, just sort of a warmup type thing.

Jump rope is awesome but it's more cardio than for strength training, although you can do stuff like double unders to work on explosion

Thais use old tyres for it because they're free. Skipping ropes cost money. It's a good exercise, but not better than skipping by any means. Skipping has the additional benefits of greater development of proprioception and coordination, as well as upperbody involvement.
