I know that there are thousand similar threads to this but I really want to know which one is better for self defense. Me (kickboxing) had an argument with a buddy of mine who does ju-jutsu which one is better for self defense. He says kickboxing is better for attack, ju- jutsu is better for defense. What is your guys opinion on this?

The best defense is a good offense said Napoleon.

But I think you question ought to be what is best for countering, and what is best of initializing contact.

Jujitsu is sometimes said to use the opponents attack against them. Striking lets you hurt someone without needing to wait for opponent to make the first move.

Something with mobility is the best for defense (and offense). How are you going to get away during those vital split seconds if your fight style is immobile?

Wrestling and/or judo is much more useful for practical grappling, since they are useful standing up and teach to use angles/mobility

Shaolin shadowboxing and the wu-tang sword style.

Both would be best obviously, but jiujitsu is still numeral uno as a stand alone art for self defense.

Unless the fight ends in the first couple of shots, the action will make its way to the clinch, and unless one of the combatants has wrestling experience the clinch will usually end with both people crumpling to the ground.

Toad Style is the best for defence, it's immensely strong and immune to nearly any weapon

LOL, best answer unless U work in active security, military, LEO or late night clubs.

Some dude was saying how he wants to train oblique side kicks for SD as a 40 something lawyer who needs to guard hypothetical ladies honor and gets attacked every year or so...

Other than those examples, if someone got the dime on you, your situational awareness and threat assessment IQ is in the toilet or U r a willing participant in glorified schoolyard scuffles.

    huh?
Well, obviously this is not for someone who works in active security, military or late night clubs. It's for the "common folk". I think the advice is pretty sound. Did you read the whole thing?

Oh yeah, a few weeks ago...My attempt at sarcasm wasn't translated.

I think that articles advice is the best for everyone but active duty operational service and jobs...meaning 99% of everyone out there, LOL!

I was agreeing with ya except for very specific examples.
