We had some visitors from Slovakia training with us. Theme of the session was kimura from guard, hip bum from that, back to kimura or triangle or armbar. This was the first thing I learned when I started 2.5 years ago, time flies when you get choked a lot

On monday we did some work on the scissor sweep and triangle from the closed guard, on wednesday it was half guard passing. I feel like performance in sparring is picking up again, although my escapes are a bit rusty. The handstand resolution is on a good way, the initial soreness in my wrists has subsided and I already can balance for quite some time in a frog stand, but my upper back is catching up now.

I registered for a competition in early november, because I feel like my training was lacking direction. So in preparation I'll try to get 3-4 mat session and 2 S&C session in, BW is on point at 93kg, so I probably won't have to wreck myself cutting again. After that I'll focus lifting and try to work up to my old numbers and maybe break some new grounds.

Slacker checking in. Had some neck pain starting on thursday, so opted out of training. Went partying with a friend, some spanish chicks and their colleagues on friday and played designated driver on a long night out on saturday.

I finally got my ego in check and dropped my TM by a bit. I've been grinding at the same weights for the last year or so, consistency has been shit since NYE and I'm dragging ass as is. Comparing myself now to where I was one year ago is sad.

    Tue, September 13
    Power Snatch:
    bar x 5; 40kg x 3
    60kg 3x3

    Squat:
    60kg x 5; 80kg x 5
    100kg x 3
    115kg x 3
    125kg x 3

    Bench:
    bar x 10; 50kg x 5
    75kg 4x6

Some dips and chins, but my left shoulder hates me when I do dips, for whatever reason.

Yesterday was butterfly guard, Wallid style passing and a cross choke from bottom.

At todays open mat i did some throwing drills and open guard rolling with everyone available. Though my escapes need some sharping in general, my guard could use some improvement both devensively and offensively.

    Tomorrow: deadlifts!

    BJJ (yesterday)
Game of the day was stack passing, a little fun for the disks.

Sa, September 24 (a week late)
    Deadlift:
    60kg x 5; 100kg x 5
    130kg x 3
    155kg x 3
    170kg x 5
    140kg x 5

    OHP:
    bar x 10; 40 x 5
    50kg x 3
    55kg x 3
    62.5kg x 5
    Push Press:
    62.5kg 2x3

Solid day, considering I've been only lifting once a week for quite a while now. Cleaned every set of presses from the floor, as somebody wanted to squat. PP sucked, but I want to include some heavier overhead lifts in the future, we'll see how I'll do.

    Tue, September 27
    Power Snatch:
    bar x 5; 45kg x 3
    65kg 3x2
    some random push presses

    Squat:
    65kg x 5
    90kg x 5
    105kg x 5
    120kg x 5
    105kg x 5
    90kg x 5

    Bench:
    bar x 10
    65kg x 5
    75kg x 5
    85kg x 8
    75kg x 5

    Chins: 8/6/5

I'm only lifting twice a week, so to bump the weekly volume a bit I'll ramp back down on the main lifts. When I'm mostly back into the swing of things, I'll add a couple sets of push-ups (as a regression from dips) and some LSS after both days.

    NoGI (thursday)
Went to my second ever nogi class on thursday. Started with strict burpees (so full squat and PU) for sets of 3min, 2min and 1min and then 10min slots of double legs. After an 45min of double legs it was a back take from the turtle front headlock and some bouts of rolling. I really should do these more.

I'll lift tomorrow, as I'm too overhung right now.

    Su, October 2
    Squat:
    bar x 10; 60kg x 5
    85kg 3x5

    OHP:
    bar x 10
    45 x 5
    52.5kg x 5
    60kg x 6
    PP:
    60kg x 3
    70kg x 3

    Deadlift:

    60kg x 5; 100kg x 3
    125kg x 5
    145kg x 5
    165kg x 5

A short, but good one. I like the squats at deload percentage as a final warm-up, but they'd fit better after deads.
Found a way to make the front rack on push presses work, I'll slowly buikd them up as Jokers.

I started an internship running for the remaining year on tuesday and already put in some overtime, which made me forego training until friday, when I visited my old TKD place.

    Su, October 9

    Deadlift:
    60kg x 5; 100kg x 5
    140kg x 5
    160kg x 3
    180kg x 3
    140kg x 5

    OHP:
    bar x 10; 40 x 5
    52.5kg x 5
    60kg x 3
    67.5kg x 4
    70kg 2x3 (push press)
    60kg x 3
    52.5kg x 8

    Squat: 40 x 5; 60kg x 5; 85kg x 5
    Chins: 3x6

Not bad. Keeping the thumbs around on the front rack makes ovh much easier.

    bar x 5; 40kg x 3
    60kg x 2
    70kg x 2

    Squat:
    60kg x 5; 80kg x 5
    105kg x 5
    120kg x 3
    135kg x 6 (better than expected)
    175kg x walkout
    120kg x 3
    105kg x 6

    Bench:
    bar x 10; 60kg x 5
    75kg x 5
    85kg x 3
    95kg x 5+F (misgrooved badly)
    85kg x 3
    75kg x 6

    Chins: 6/6/6/4

Not bad. Only stopped at 6 reps because I started to loose tightness and wanted to keep them clean.

Managed to make it to BJJ class again for the first time in two weeks and promptly rolled my ankle in three different directions during takedown sparring. Iced it and continued to drill over-under-passes with one leg. After walking to the subway and then driving home I popped an ibuprofen before bed and awoke today to a pretty painful lower extremity. Because my mom wanted to visit somebody in hospital anyway, I went to the ER and got an x-ray. Nothings broken or snapped up too badly, but I need to rest it for the next three weeks, which means I need to drop out of the tournament.

After 4 weeks of not training, my ankle finally started being cooperative again. Last week I could barely make it down a flight of stairs, but last night I went to BJJ and it held up pretty well. Although I could have done some training in the meantime, I didn't have the drive/discipline to do it. But I accumulated some overtime and finished my bach thesis, which is nice.

With this years consistency this will sum up recommencement #87 of lifting this year:

    BJJ (friday)
After work I bound up my thesis (which I had to augment by 1500 words at the last minute) and went straight to BJJ for some bottom-DLR-action. As expected, the ankle and my conditioning need some time to catch up, but for some strange reason my performance in sparring is quite satisfactory (probably due to some pent-up violence...).

Today I'll enjoy the first true day in a long time, tomorrow I'm going to lift and see what I am able to do.

    Su, November 20
    Deadlift:
    60kg x 5; 100kg x 5
    140kg x 5
    160kg x 3
    180kg x 1

    Squat: bar x8; 60kg 3x5

    Bench:
    bar x 10; 50kg x 5
    80kg x 5 (25's instead of 20's)
    100kg x 2

    Chins: 8/8/4
    Diamond Push-Ups: 3x8
    Knee Raises: 3x8

Everything went better than expected. Only real discomfort persisted while squatting, pulling was fine. Misloaded on bench and wondered how unreasonably heavy it was.

    BJJ (monday)
DLR movement, retention and passing drills with a combination from seioi nage up to the backtake. Felt braindead and drained with the soreness of sunday setting in, but could keep myself from getting mauled in sparring.

At least until my coach gave me my blue belt after practise and some purple belts insisted on a couple of congratulory rolls. Honestly I thought I'd get promoted around christmas at the earliest, especially after the long lay-off, but it feels good nontheless. And it's a nice, small accomplishment at the conclusion of three long but ultimately rewarding years on and off the mat.

    Tue, November 22
    Squat:
    60kg x 5; 80kg x 5
    100kg x 3
    112,5kg x 3
    125kg x 3

    Bench:
    45kg x 5
    70kg x 5
    80kg x 3
    90kg x 5

    Chins: 8/6/5
    Hanging Knee Raises: 3x8
    Uneven Push-Ups: 8/6/6

I only had an hour at my disposal, so this was a quick one. Squats felt stiff, these will probably need the most attention to rebound, rest was fine.

So yeah, went to a concert, got some vaccinations I didn't tolerate too well and some smaller social stuff.

    BJJ
    Lots of movement drills
guard pull, guard opening to underhook/leg weave pass
    Lots of rolling

    Smashed, but good.

Post-christmas open mat with a lot of blues, a few purple and white belts and our first/fresh black belt.
Got gently crushed by the upper belts and had some hard rolls with the other blues, but the white belts fought tooth and nail.

Haven't take any measurements, but judging from performance, the mirror and the fact I weigh barely get above 91kg BW I've definetly lost muscle mass in the last two months. Yesterdays jits session hampered squats noticeably, snatch and bench seem to have held up rather well.

I've identified what bothers my thumbs and kills my grip, it's the full grip for squats, so I'm switching to thumbless.
Dips felt better than ever, rest was fine.
